Donald Trump Stumbles Through Explaining His Opposition To Gay Marriage

-snip-

In an interview with Bloomberg, Trump was asked: “If you had a son or daughter or grandchild who was gay or lesbian, how would you explain to them your opposition to same-sex marriage?”

Without missing a beat, Trump replied, “Well, it’s the way it is. I wouldn’t speak to them at all about it, other than they are who they are and I want them to be happy and I will love them and I will cherish them.”

“I’ve gone to gay weddings,” he continued. “I’ve been at gay weddings. I have been against it from the standpoint of Bible, from the standpoint of my teachings as growing up and going to Sunday school and going to church and I’ve been opposed to it.”

Ah, yes. The old “But I’m not a homophobe, my best friend is gay!” excuse. Honestly, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Donald.

And I don't mean that as an easy insult. There were a lot of stories coming out of the Palin campaign back in 2008 that she didn't feel she needed to study the issues like all candidates do. Other candidates have their opinions, but then they take time to go through (and often have advisers working with them) opposing viewpoints, how to respond to those viewpoints, advantages and consequences of both sides, etc. Palin - for whatever reason (probably because she believed God is on her side) - didn't feel the need to study (and probably found it boring) and crashed and burned several times because of it. Donald is doing the same thing, but in his case, his worldview is centered on the fact that he' extremely rich, which always makes him the best person in the room. Whatever he thinks is true not because of God (Trump doesn't care about a God), but because he's worth several billion. How can anyone with that much money be wrong about anything so why should he study?

He'll either continue this way doing his version of Palin's "I read all newspapers/magazines" ("The entire Bible is just super... hugely super&quot , or he'll let himself get convinced that he does need some study time on the issues, and then he'll make life hell for whatever advisers are tasked with doing so.
