There is a game I am looking forward to playing, called Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which I have posted several videos and music from. The story is about a few brave renegades who live in a city that is ACTUALLY run by a corporation. The police belong to and protect the corporation and there for are bought and sold. The Corporation has rescinded all rights of the people of the city. The police can go anywhere they please, harass or kill anyone they see fit, all under the guise of "protecting" the citizens. THERE are cameras everywhere, all communications are monitored, and the only way anyone can secretly communicate is by a runner (which is what Faith Connors, the main character and the one you play in the game.).
FAITH and her little gang want to expose the Corporation for what they are, thus by stealing secrets and mucking up their ability to do what they do. They are considered a terrorist organization in GLASS CITY and freedom fighters among themselves. Their activities are restricted to the rooftops, and high buildings and having no fear, traverse the city far above the normal masses. They all have martial arts skill but carry no weapons. They might steal a weapon from the police and use it for self defense, but only if their lives are in danger.
quote from the game:
This Conglomerate is made up of a number of powerful corporations, and its influence has led the citizens of Glass City to give up personal freedoms in exchange for mindless entertainment and pointless consumption. Anyone that questions the Conglomerate is quietly removed from the equationfear keeps people in check, and envy drives them.
Getting back to the scary part of this game is, that if not careful, this could end up being what our future may look like, with a Corporatocracy running all of our lives, and there being no individual rights what so ever. While it maybe fun to kick a little butt in this game, its still begs the question about how bad could it be in this kind of future, and its clear, it would be very bad. Once you have chosen a side against the Conglomerate, you will forever be wanted and hunted, living in the shadows and in the back alleys, and finding small ways to sustain yourself to survive. It would not be a future I would want live in.
TO me this screams, we need a Democratic form of government, and not allow the Republicans to gain power, or we might all end up in GLASS CITY!

(6,476 posts)You want to know what scares me more? What if Faith and her little band succeed and expose the corporatocracy in all its grim reality and no one really seems to care, nothing changes, there is no outcry...everything goes on as before. THAT scares me.
Thanks for the intro to the game and your thoughts...nice OP!

(14,459 posts)Corps are getting larger than nations. The Eurozone is basically a test to see if Banks can successfully take over entire continents by controlling money.
Our party leaders are supporting the move to this model via free trade and various laws that allow even more things to be privatized, like prisons.
It's not enough to keep Republicans out of the equation- we have to remove the people in our party who agree with them.

(41,831 posts)Some are women, its a very equal opportunistic thing, as the city under Kurger is entirely corrupt and all the cops are bad. Its a city that preys on itself, with the RICH scooping up everything leaving no citizen with any rights. Another words, its a Republican's wet dream.

(17,656 posts)It gets cold here in February and staying inside the house playing a game sounds like a great way to have a lot of fun.
Thanks.

(41,831 posts)we may have to rely on people like Faith Connors to stem back the tide.. or to help us all survive.
