D-E-N-A-L-I!

Thrilled President Obama issued the order to return this glorious mountain's true name!

Maybe next Mt. Rainier will be Tahoma, again, etc.!

Many of these mountains were named on behalf of men who never even saw them! What a slap in the face to the original inhabitants who had known them by their true names for eons!

A little bit of justice was granted today.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to climb it and I'm qualified through a legitimate guide service (Alpine Ascents) to climb it but honestly, I may be getting too old. I'll be 58 in November.

is only that. We all know 20 year olds who are physiologically more like 65 year olds...etc. So it depends on your fitness level and endurance!

He was 25 when he climbed it with 2 buddies, no guide. He grew up in Tacoma and has climbed Rainier 20 times so far. He attempted DENALI one time prior, but they made it all the way up in 1980...right when St. Helens blew here (we live near Wenatchee, WA - where all the wildfires are now!).

Quite a story..he headed up after a final phone call with me letting him know St. Helens blew (as a mountain man, he was sorry to miss that!). For 3 weeks on DENALI he had no idea what kind of shape we were in here!! Can you imagine? Being able to focus? Anyway, we were just on the edge of the ash cloud, so, no Armageddon...then...

We named a cat DENALI. It's one of our favorite things!

Must be just to pizz off the repubs. He should change the name of the Reagan airport to the Sharpton airport.

Google News included an item from Fux Noise about how the US Representatives from Ohio (Pres. McKinley's home state) are experiencing significant butt-hurt.

Instead of introducing any kind of jobs legislation, or addressing global climate change, or any other serious problems, they want to stop this action:

This political stunt is insulting to all Ohioans, and I will be working with the House Committee on Natural Resources to determine what can be done to prevent this action," [Rep. Bob] Gibbs [R-Ohio] said.

If you can handle it, check out the story's comment section, awash in bile from that network's loyal viewers.

And it doesn't hurt a bit that BOEHNER is from Ohio!

I think PBO has an advisor on his team with a sadistic bent.

Every time I read the name, I have to focus before I see "Denali"and not "Denial." My brain seems to re-arrange the letters a bit so it's a word I recognize. I'll get over it.

We should not have renamed everything in the first place. I support giving things their original names again.

Don't know how Ohio could be mad about this....some gold prospector named a mountain that already had a name. This is about restoration of its proper name, and correcting a serious wrong done to the Alaskans...
