... Tanner Palmer, 21, a student at Marietta College, said that while some may see the flag as a symbol against "big government," he believes the flag has a different meaning for many.
"People like to claim it's against government control because it represented a confederacy of states instead of the Union," said Palmer. "But that's not what it has turned into. They use it now as a way to display hate and as a scare tactic."
Palmer's fellow classmate, Alex Schaeffer, 22, of Canton, agreed, calling the symbol "antiquated."
"I just don't think anybody should have it displayed," he said. "It's ignorant of the whole reason the Civil War was fought. It doesn't display freedom, it celebrates enslavement" ...
