At that time, many people in the North were Unitarians. They acknowledged God over heaven and Earth yet denied the deity of Gods only son, our Lord and savior, Christ Jesus. The Confederate battle flag was designed with deep religious meaning by Confederate Congressman William P. Miles as a battlefield ensign and adapted by Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard as the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. Carried into battle by Trinity-believing Christians, the Confederate battle flag, along with the rebel yell, was intended to put the fear of God into the hearts of the Yankee invaders. The red field represents the blood of Christ. The white border represents the protection of God. The blue X represents the Christian cross of St. Andrew. The 13 stars represent the 13 Southern states of secession. The message in the Confederate battle flag is that through the blood of Christ, with the protection of God, we, the 13 states, are united in our Christian fight for liberty. Where is the representation of slavery or white supremacy?http://www.goupstate.com/article/20150831/OPINION/150839967/-1/topic0327?Title=-Must-be-
So, y'see, th'civil war wuz mostly about protectin wimmins and chilluns from them heathen unitarian hoards

(82,849 posts)1. That's interesting
So, by their lights (and I strictly disagree with their moronic interpretation, fitting though it might be for their intellect), even God Almighty couldn't save their sorry asses. And they want to commemorate that.

The Methodist Episcopal Church, South, split from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1844 over the question of slavery
The following year, the Southern Baptist Convention was founded as the result of a similar schism
In 1857, the New School Presbyterians split from the Presbyterians over the question of slavery; and at the beginning of the civil war both the schools further split into northern and southern branches
