The University of Notre Dame, Catholic University of America, and Franciscan University of Steubenville have joined a group of religious institutions that is suing the Obama administration to block a requirement that most employers cover birth control as part of their health insurance. The Associated Press called the lawsuits, filed in federal courts on Monday, the largest push against the mandate since President Barack Obama announced the policy in January. Leaders of the Roman Catholic institutions said the rule would violate their religious freedom. In response to a public outcry over the policy, the Obama administration offered to soften the rule so that insurers, rather than religious groups, would pay for birth control, but opponents of the mandate say that change didnt go far enough. John H. Garvey, president of Catholic University, issued a statement saying that unless we can get judicial relief, we will soon have to take steps to conform to a rule we view as immoral. Notre Dames president, the Rev. John I. Jenkins, wrote that we will continue in earnest our discussions with administration officials in an effort to find a resolution, but, after much deliberation, we have concluded that we have no option but to appeal to the courts regarding the fundamental issue of religious freedom.

(14,337 posts)Damn, they don't even get CONCEIVED in the first place. Every sex act MUST be "open" to conception according to the CC. Maybe they should worry about the already born, in particular LITTLE BOYS, inside?
They make me sick to ever have been born in this church.

(6,960 posts)... demanding that all federally guaranteed student aid -- loans and grants -- be prohibited from use at Catholic universities and colleges; that any federally funded ROTC programs at these institutions be closed down; that any research funded in whole or in part by the federal government cease at these religious organizations; etc.
After all, we wouldn't want to violate the Roman church's purity of "religious freedom" by having them tainted by federal dollars, would we?
I'm tired of the Catholic church dictating public policy. So take away any public money from going to them.

I think a few visits by the IRS and threats to open the books would curtail their war on women very quickly.
If they don't want to follow our law, then don't take our money

(6,960 posts)... or integrity, they would take the initiative and announce that henceforth they will not accept any student paying tuition and/or board with federally guaranteed loans or grants.
They could decide that from here-on-out, in the name of "religious freedom" they won't participate in any program that involves taking money from local, state or the national government.
But we all know that they want to take as much 'assistance' from any level of government that they can -- but they don't want to have to play by anyone's rules but their own.
Of course, this is the history of the Roman church -- they believe they are god's government here on earth and everyone else should be subject to their decrees. They've been like this for about 1700 years; indeed, the Protestant Reformation was waged to free governments and individuals from Roman's religious tyranny.
What a bunch of hypocrites.
