Did Trump make a bad deal?

I think so.

The Republican Party is not a brand name people are rushing to buy. That was a major part of his appeal, that he was not close to the Republican Party.

Also, now that the fear of him going rogue and running as an independent has been quelled, there is little reason for other Republicans to hold off their criticisms of him.

He brags about how great he is as a negotiator, but history will show that this was the turning point in his run for the White House, in my opinion. His poll numbers will go down from this day forward. He got took to the cleaners. He gave up the only leverage that he had.

1. As he certainly knows, that "pledge" is not in any way enforceable.

And we all know he is not averse to using such "loopholes". There is no real deal.

I think you are right that this is the beginning of the end for him, but it may be that he's getting bored with the whole schtick anyway.
He brags. He blusters. But eventually even his supporters are going to say "Does he ever shut up??"

4. Actually, This Was Smart of Him, GOP Holdouts Who Didn't Support Him Because of This, Now Can

And many of them will now come over to him. Watch his numbers rise now as some hold outs now feel comfortable coming over to him. This agreement is cover for him to make inroads with some of the establishment types who have not been coming over. And there's no way to enforce this pledge. He will just say THEY broke the deal by not treating him fairly, and he'll run third party anyway.

try to destroy him, and he will have to go quietly into the night.

But I don't really believe he will keep his word.

He can always claim the GOP didn't live up to their end of the bargain if he doesn't get the nomination.

He'll claim that he was disrespected or republicans weren't "fair" to him and then break the Pledge.

Taking the Pledge got him free TV and radio time today, that's all.
