The Jerusalem Post, one of the most influential newspapers in Israel, wrote an absolutely disgusting article about Jimmy Carter entitled Jimmy Carters Cancer is Gods Punishment. Their love for President Obama is not too far off, either.
If cancer is indeed a punishment by God, meant for the people of the world who supposedly go against Israel, then heres an interesting cancer statistic to ponder. According to a study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, Jews actually have a much higher chance of contracting pancreatic cancer:
Does this mean God is enacting his judgment on them for how they treat the people of Palestine? Of course not. Theres no connection at all. But thats the twisted logic in the Jerusalem Post. People really believe this kind of religious nonsense. However, a leading newspaper shouldnt be posting stuff like this.

(3,967 posts)I read the article at the Jerusalem Post.
All it has is a rabbi explaining that anyone who thinks Carter's cancer is divine punishment is an idiot.
The vile phrase in the screen shot appears in the newspaper's headline only in quotations, and the entire article is an editorial saying how stupid the viewpoint in the quotations is. This was in no way the paper asserting the viewpoint in quotes. This is not what the paper was saying.
It would be like if a paper wrote "Sarah Palin made the absurd assertion that 'immigrants should speak American' even though American is not a language" and you posting "Leading paper says 'immigrants should speak American.'"
Apparently AddictingInfo.org is not above creating myths at the same time it claims to discredit them. Amazing.
From the Jerusalem Post article:
Blech, an Orthodox Jewish author and professor of Talmud of at Yeshiva University, writes:
There are those already proclaiming with prophetic certainty that Jimmy Carter is being punished by God for his sins against Israel and the Jewish people. Carters cancer is the divine edict for his anti-Semitism. And with that smug analysis of heavenly justice these false prophets have unwittingly besmirched millions of righteous and God-fearing people who similarly find themselves suffering from incurable diseases and facing painful deaths."
Carter is not the only one dying from cancer. People in my own family were victims; pious and holy individuals I knew personally were targets of agonizing final ailments. But the Torah taught us not to dare make judgments based on equating someones suffering with sin and be guilty of the crime of the friends of Job.
One can only guess how those who believe Jimmy Carters cancer is divine retribution are explaining the 90-plus years he has lived in relatively good health, trotting around the globe, selling books and maintaining a position of great influence.
