Pardon my flippant thread title. It isn't mentioned in this news story, but Rep Gamrat was said to have delivered a tearful apology.
Expulsion from Michigan House recommended for Lapeer lawmaker
LANSING Brock Swartzle, the general counsel for the Michigan House and the House Speaker's Chief of Staff, recommended that Lapeer Representative Todd Courser be expelled from the House.
Swartzle also recommended that Rep. Cindy Gamrat be censured, rather than be expelled from the House.
The two lawmakers are accused of using state resources in an attempt to cover-up an extramarital affair. A Michigan House committee investigating Reps Courser and Gamrat listened to testimony today.
Rep. Gamrat testified in front of the committee, admitting to misconduct and apologizing for the attempted cover-up. She asked to be censured, rather than expelled.
She spoke for nearly 10 minutes, saying that she was "sincerely devastated" by what she had done.
The full House report on Courser and Gamrat is expected to be released later today.

(16,286 posts)and she is, the media and everybody else is ignoring the horror that is the views and history of Trump and Bush and Walker and so on.
These are horrid people, HORRID people.
Yet most people have no clue.
To Michigan's credit, though, this situation is not being brushed under the rug, ala David Vitter or Newt Gingrich. I've heard more outrage out of the Republicans than the Democrats. I think they will just sit back and watch this thing play out.

(26,268 posts)It would be fantastic if a Democrat can pick up that Lapeer seat. The one on the west side of Michigan will never change.

(23,664 posts)It wasn't rape was it? She was just as willing as he was to engage in the boinkage, wasn't she?
Yet a "tearful apology" allows her to walk away with a mere censure, while he suffers (?) expulsion. How do we know that he wasn't "sincerely devastated" as well?
