I was fourteen years old, playing at one of my childhood friend's house when her mother and another neighbor came in with three kittens. They were new born, maybe two days old.The neighbor was mowing his lawn and almost ran them over because they were so hidden in the grass. The mother was nowhere to be found.
I would go over to my friend's house everyday to help them bottle feed them, hold them, and love them. One kitten really stuck out to me and I fell in love with him immediately. He was the runt of the litter and so tiny. I could hold him in the palm of one hand and he would only take up a little over half of it. I was there for his first steps and the day his eyes finally opened. I begged my parents to let me take him home. They kept telling me no and my heart was crushed. It didn't stop me from consistently asking everyday. One day the answer changed to yes, as long as my step dad got to name him. I didn't even care..I was getting to keep my kitten.
The day I brought him home, my step dad decided to name him Elrod, attempting to name him after one of the Blues Brothers but failing to remember that the name he meant to use was Elwood. Elrod stuck, and it fits him perfectly. A unique name for a unique kitty. He has the personality of a cat like no other. He will come up and meow right in your face like he has a story to tell you. When you walk by he playfully paws at your feet. And he's just so gorgeous, my favorite thing about him is his multi-colored nose. It gives him so much character. He came in my life and I have no idea where I would be without him. He makes our family complete. He is now nine years old and will be celebrating his tenth birthday in April, and we are hoping for many, many more years to come.
