The Carroll County Democratic Central Committee's members are considering renaming their most lucrative fundraiser in order to distance themselves from what they consider the stigma of racism and slavery ...

The event, named the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner after former presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, honors two prominent figures in American history, but their names are irrevocably attached to issues that have been politically controversial locally and nationally for decades.

In the past few months, several state Democratic parties, including those in Georgia, Connecticut, Missouri and most recently Iowa, have voted to remove the names Jackson and Jefferson from their fundraisers due to their status as slave-owners and Jackson's controversial involvement in the "Trail of Tears," the forced removal of Native Americans from East of the Mississippi River ...
