On this day in Labor History the year was 1918. Socialist and labor leader Eugene Debs was sentenced to ten years in prison for opposing the United States’ involvement in World War I. The Espionage and Sedition Act had been passed a year earlier.

2:00 minute audio at link.

The Rick Smith radio show has some fans trying to get his show on Sirius/XM.

I post his labor history in 2:00 on the DU every day with a great response.

Please help make this happen.

Short-term or long-term? Workers in the place where the war is actually occurring, or workers isolated from the conflict who are just churning out more munitions? One thing I would say is that, IMO, the bosses gain a helluva lot more than the workers. But that's true of just about everything.
