I'm browsing fine until I click on DU.
OK---sure enough---as soon as I posted this it's running fast again.
You fucking with me Earl?

(67,111 posts)DU to load/refresh. Other times it's super fast. I've heard a server upgrade is in the works down the road.

(49,991 posts)It's going to really start to bog down when the election gets hotter.

(67,111 posts)capabilities of DU, it's incredible. I'm an IT person, feels like a classical case of server thrashing ... just needs an upgrade. Yep, definitely, it's going to get a real load on it as the election approaches.

(39,215 posts)it either will not work or it post several times. I am also having trouble with videos but I don't think that is because of DU. Seems to be some trouble with Windows 10.

(22,651 posts)try the site not logged in and you'll see the ramp-up of info flowing from your computer or 'device'.
I guess it will take an IT person and an upgrade? to make the ads not even 'start' to use/drain our resources if there is a "star". There must be a way to do that but I'm not very savvy about servers or the way ads script/HOOK on message boards.
Travis_0004
(5,417 posts)The ads should be hosted on Google. All DU is is going is running a small script to tell google where to put the ads, which shouldn't take too many resources on DU's servers.
Sunlei
(22,651 posts)what I was trying to say is it seems like those with a star & logged in ('star members'do not even see ads if logged in) our devices/PC are 'hooked' by something at the point of entry to DU.
It could very well be the google server, the way they mesh with the DU servers.
I've always avoided any "stay logged on" to google, their google plus, youtube or any of their services because then it's really noticeable to me the slowdown. on all my PCs, even tablets or my cell phone.

(7,242 posts)and holding up the rest of the content displaying (though DU itself is snail's pace at times here too).
This is evident by Firefox with a non-subscriber account showing messages indicating goodle ads and google-syndication links - along with sometimes blogads, scorecardresearch, securepubads or other ad farms, it's not just Google - loading, which can take a minute or two, or at worst seemingly never resolve.
I wonder if there's a way of recoding the pages so that content display doesn't hang while the adservers are responding. As a non-subscriber, I've no objection to seeing ads in lieu, but quite often I just give up waiting nowadays and go elsewhere online as there's no guarantee I'll be able to see any threads I click on or do any of the other things you'd normally take for granted.

(39,215 posts)let me move the content up or down until everything on the page I am trying to move to is loaded.

(7,242 posts)After blocking ad trackers, the site is now usable again - just the occasional wait for the DU server, but no more waiting for the adservers to resolve.

(65,061 posts)I see an awfully large number of "waitings". Like the connection first gets made, then nothing for a while. When it loads, it loads fast. Network issue between the servers?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)a number of times, and answered by the admins. They're going to upgrade their servers to get better speed. It's in progress. They've said that more than a few times to questions in that forum, which is designed for questions about DU. If you go there, you'll see the questions, along with the answers from the admins.

(146,317 posts)I'm just making a suggestion about where you can find the answer to your question. It's up to you whether to go look there. That's where the admins answer questions like yours, though. They almost never do that in GD. Just being helpful.

(41,692 posts)No clue do you?
I know where the fuck the Ask Admin section is here at DU. I asked fellow DUers if they are having problems or is it my computer.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Yes, you know where ATA is. The answer to your question is there. And no, EarlG isn't "fucking" with you. Neither am I.
Here's a thread in ATA that answers your question. Skinner addresses it in a reply:

(146,317 posts)I joined DU in 2008. I didn't even visit DU until 2008. So, you're bringing up stuff from 9 years ago? WTF?
I don't know. It just seems odd somehow. I won't go there any more. You can keep bringing it up, but I'm not going to participate other than to explain once again that I was banned at that website for "anti-freeping."

(41,692 posts)how long were you on that site...and how many bigot posts did you write?
Don't try to rewrite your history over there because the Internet is forever.

(146,317 posts)You keep bringing up stuff from 9 years ago and older. I won't play. Check my history here.
