I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime

And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
Kicked in my face
But I've come through

{emphasis mine}

Whether true or not, I couldn't tell you, but it does seem fitting....

Peace,

Ghost

The song was released in 1977, long before there was any significant awareness of AIDS (maybe 5 years or so before the first talk of an epidemic)

He sang Fat Bottom Girls and he was gay.

I wish I was young enough to not remember him. Well, not really - he was phenomenal. He died in 1991.
