Saturdays post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027164602
I went out to do the morning cleaning of the fountain. I was pulling leaves out from around the pumps. All of a sudden a leaf moved. We scared each other, even though I knew that instant what it was. I went to get the camera. Here as promised is the photo of our frog. We live a little less than a quarter mile from the marshland.
Because the Omaha water treatment uses chloramines, we have to treat the water to make it bird, amphibian, etc safe. See photo below. The skeeter treatment is safe for them too.
I threw in a photo of mamma and baby bird bathing on the top of the fountain Saturday too.
This morning.
This is our UV filter that removes the chloramines from our water to make it safe for the frog & friends.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloramine: Ultraviolet light[edit]
The use of ultraviolet (UV) light for chlorine or chloramine removal is an established technology that has been widely accepted in pharmaceutical, beverage, and dialysis applications.[15] UV is also used for disinfection at aquatic facilities.
Saturday's photo.

UV filters ROCK. There is nothing better to keep a pond clean, that's for sure!

And make sure froggie has a way to get up out of the water, a rock or something or else he'll drown once he's done being a tadpole!! I learned that one in the most tragic way. It just never occurred to me that the tadpoles that turned into frogs would need to be able to get out of the water! Silly me.
But yeah, the UV filter thing is amazing. I still use a filter to clean out the fish detris but my ponds have always been crystal clear since using UV.
Maybe a few more rocks & plants to disguise the tubing, but that's a really pretty fountain!

(99,658 posts)5. We had just added the fish Saturday morning
So we had moved the pumps and lines around. We will have more time this weekend to place things better. We will work on more cover for the equipment and another place for the frog to sit.
We started with the fountain about 6 weeks ago, so we are still learning.
S/he seems to like sitting on top of the pumps.
