CRESTVIEW The years-old controversy surrounding the Confederate battle flag fluttering above Confederate Park was resolved by a unanimous decision to transfer both the flag and the Confederate veterans memorial below it to a local family.
Crestview City Councilman JB Whitten moved to transfer the equipment to trustees of the Lundy family who can do with it whatever they choose to do with it.
William Uncle Bill Lundy, a purported Confederate States Army veteran who died in Crestview in 1957, is mentioned by name on the memorial.
The quick action in the opening minutes of Monday evenings council meeting which was moved to Warriors Hall to accommodate the large turnout defused tensions that have surrounded the flag since the 1990s ...

(6,409 posts)The rebels stood as a bulwark against communism since 450 BC, when they first raised the "Stainless Banner" (their name for the battle flag) over the Parthenon to lead the overthrow of the Forty Tyrants. Stuff like that.

(7,429 posts)They hate that area so much, but they can't get out of their house yet. Still owe more than it's worth.
Anyway, I've seen this memorial last year when I was up there - the people up there are so into their Confederate Loving Ways. My mom feels like a she lives on an island. It's just My Mom and My Step-Dad and barely anyone else are Liberal!!
