Birthers are coming around full circle...

This was a LTTE in our local paper, The Sheboygan Press.

Is Ted Cruz eligible to be president of the United States?

He was born in Calgary, Canada. His mother is from Delaware. His father is from Cuba.

Our constitution of the U.S., Article II, Section 1, says “No person except natural born citizen or a citizen of the U.S. at the time of the adoption of this constitution shall be eligible to the office of president, neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained an age of 35 years and be 14 years a resident in the U.S.”

He certainly is eligible to be president. He was born to a US citizen who was out of the country, and that's the same as a natural born citizen. "Natural born" means born into citizenship, not just born in the United States. John McCain was born out of the country, for example.

...which was US Territory at the time. He probably would be a natural born citizen even if his parents weren't.
Cruz of course is a citizen, although it's certainly entertaining to make teabaggers heads explode by arguing he's not.
