I don't care what the polls say, Donald Trump is going to implode and I don't take Carson or Florin seriously. So the only mystery at this point is where will Trump's supporters go? If they like obnoxious, they can go to Christie. But if you put a $5 bill in my hand to place a bet, I would STILL put it on Scott Walker. He's the only candidate in the field with a record of turning white, working class resentment into electoral success.

(37,364 posts)Echoes of a (I had hoped) by-gone age.
Will Trump put all his assets into a blind trust for the period he would serve as President?

He has done well at the debates, and is the only establishment candidate rising steadily in the polls.[/font]

(9,535 posts)Those who back Trump because they want to put a business leader in charge, thinking they will turn the economy around or be pro-business, would shift to Fiorina if Trump falls out of the race (which doesn't look likely right now).
Those who back Trump because they are bigots would have to go with one of the more fringe candidates; the other leading Reps (Bush, Fiorina and Carson) are not overtly racist or immigrant bashers; perhaps these would shift to Walker, Cruz or Huckabee--or just not vote. Let's hope for the latter. On edit, Carson did make racist comments about Muslims, but bigots aren't going to vote for the black guy.

(135,425 posts)Well, good. Naturally, for many of us, this is an enticing lure, and Paul has manufactured a solid base with his live-and-let-live posture. Its easy to be drawn into his semantic trap until we realize that live-and-let-live also means allowing businesses to discriminate against whomever they choose and for just about any reason.
After declaring thats not intolerant, however, Paul added, That includes Christians, too.
The subtext here, which he deliberately didnt elaborate upon, is that his tolerance of Christians includes tolerance enough to allow Christians to be intolerant and outright discriminatory against LGBT customers. His political discipline is shoddy, but it isnt shoddy enough that hed openly admit to being pro-discrimination while appearing on a generally liberal television show. Instead, just before changing the subject, he admitted it in the form of an anecdote about a T-shirt shop that refused to print pro-LGBT shirts for customer.
This only scratches the surface of Rand Paul as a civil rights Trojan Horse.....

(43,049 posts)You and I may see her as a lying POS with the worst track record in the field, but we're talking here about Trump supporters, not sentient beings. She did, after all, manage con a whole bunch of executives at AT&T's Bell Labs and HP, none of whom could be called the idiots the Rump supporters are.
Fiorina is a perfect Rump clone-- she lies with perfect aplomb where most people are not inclined to challenge her. Whenever she speaks, she speaks with authority, even if it's a bowlfull of bullshit. But, she's not rude and obnoxious and carries herself with some sort of dignity. She is the perfect place for a Rump follower to get lost in.
Except, maybe for those who hate women, but maybe she can even get over that. Again, we're not talking the brightest bulbs here, and she has perfected the art of getting her way and getting away with it.

(20 posts)I expect Trump will eventually implode. Carson and Fiorina are flashes in the pan and will probably fade. Walker, despite his current dismal position, is still a Koch favorite and they might not be ready to give up on him just yet.
Or maybe in the end they will "settle" for Jeb like happened with Mitt in 2012.

(30,755 posts)this implosion will take, or how far into the future it will be.
If it takes long enough, Walker may drop out. His backers will stop giving him money.

(50,303 posts)I can't help thinking he didn't plan it this way. Now that he's got so much support he might be looking for a way to bail out. If he folds I think Cruz might pick up his followers since he's had his lips planted on Trump's behind for most of the race so far.

(94,716 posts)There could be several more departure (INCLUDING Walker, who's apparently hard up for funding) by the time Trump checks out.

(18,115 posts)Is there still validity to the theory that Trump will bail before he has to release his financials? What would that date be, including extensions?

(15,071 posts)he will rise in GOP polls. He's already hit Hispanics, women and Muslims. Now he can turn it on other minorities to capture more of the GOP voters.
