(Canada) Conservatives swing into lead, close in on majority government, new poll suggests

With less than a month to go in the campaign, and heading into the first of three leaders debates, the Tories have moved ahead of their rivals with the support of 35.4 per cent of voters, according to the Ekos poll conducted for Montreal’s La Presse newspaper.

Damn. I was hoping Canada was about to turn back to what it was.

Four polls after this one show it a tie with a small lead for the Liberals.
Ekos last poll (last week) had the Tories in second behind the NDP.

the Tories are not surging as the report suggests. This week will give some indication of a Tory rise but I doubt it. The fate of the ten new ridings around Toronto may be the clincher or the six new ridings in BC and Nova Scotia. Whoever gets the majority of these new ridings will probably form the next government.

It's a nail biter which may force a coalition between the Libs and NDP if the Tories win by anything less than 3%. The Tories would fall with their first budget with only 30+% of the electorate.

Outliers are to be expected. One outlier had the NDP 8 points higher than their average. It happens.
