Chris Brown refused entry to Australia due to poor character

The Federal Government has followed through on its threat to block US R 'n' B singer Chris Brown from entering the country because of his history of domestic violence.

Tickets for Brown's One Hell of a Nite Tour were due to go on sale tomorrow at midday, with shows planned for Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

"People need to understand, if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world there are going to be countries that say to you, 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia'.

Senator Cash said she made similar decisions in her former role as assistant immigration minister. Global boxing identity Floyd Mayweather was banned from coming to Australia earlier this year. "I had previously not allowed a particular sportsperson to come into Australia because of his record in relation to domestic violence," she said.

Australians aren't perfect in regards to domestic violence, apparently 700 police incidents per day around the nation, but at least there is a community movement towards doing better.

since the days when one had a good chance of starting a new life, in the big, messy U.S. anyway, just by driving away from the old one. I never felt a wish or need to, but just knowing it's no longer possible is rather oppressive.

any more either, Australia having been sort of a national fantasy of a back door for those who needed it.

a while back now, 2009, although apparently Mayweather's record was more recent. The White Australia policy may have been dismantled long ago, but people are people.

I'll try and see if there is a record of some type to see if this is evenhanded. I know that some holocaust deniers and others have been kept out.

At the moment violence against women is a very big social issue, up to the top of government, so my gut feel is that this is the true cause (but I can't deny our racist past or present)

Controversial US “pick-up artist” Julien Blanc has cut short his Australian tour after having his visa cancelled in the wake of protests against his seminars, which promote dangerous and abusive behaviour towards women.

“We can confirm Julien Blanc left Australia overnight,” Victorian police said on Twitter. “His assistant is also due to leave shortly.” The pair had planned to stay until December.

The immigration minister, Scott Morrison, said Blanc’s visa was cancelled Thursday night.

“The matter was raised with us and we had it investigated and this fellow looked at,” Morrison told Sky News on Friday.

“This guy wasn’t putting forward political ideas, he was putting forward abuse that was derogatory to women and that’s just something, those are values abhorred in this country.”

Only weeks after revoking the visa of self professed ‘pick up artist’ Julien Blanc, Immigration Minister, Scott Morrison has controversially denied a temporary visa to social media kingpin Dan Bilzerian after a video emerged of him kicking a woman in the face in a Miami nightclub.

This morning it was revealed that the “King of Instagram” Dan Bilzerian was arrested at LAX late Tuesday night and is currently being held without bail.

It’s unclear whether the arrest had anything to do with the fact that he was recently kicked out of a Miami nightclub for allegedly kicking a woman named Vanessa Castano in the face. She has since filed a police report.

It appears that Bilzerian was planning an impromptu trip to Australia at the request of several “high-up and well known” casino developers and magnates, to tour the country on a nightclub circuit and to also act as a consultant on the design of the millionaires poker floors at Barangaroo and a new casino to be built in Cairns.

The application of this policy is a fair question, but I wouldn't begin with any bias about the motives.

domestic violence, so even if "people are people" that doesn't mean this couldn't be entirely policy driven. I was just wishing I had a fuller picture.

Australia certainly hasn't always been kind to its native people of color, to put it mildly.

On jury duty in a DV case, in voir dire I saw the judge working very hard to qualify prospective jurors who expressed a bias against abusers. The partial voir dire session alone was enough to convince the defendant to take a plea during a break.
