Sheriff charged with investigating Umpqua Community College shooting is a 9/11 and Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist

Sheriff Hanlin vowed not to enforce the law and life-saving Brady background checks

WASHINGTON - The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence is calling for the resignation of Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, effective immediately. The Campaign has also called for his replacement as lead investigator of the Umpqua Community College shooting.

"John Hanlin should tender his resignation from the Douglas Country Sheriff's Office and be immediately replaced as lead investigator on this case," said Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

"Citizens of Oregon voted for the expansion of Brady background checks in a law signed by Governor Brown this past May. In pledging not to enforce the new law, John Hanlin has clearly demonstrated that his political ideology trumps his responsibility to protect his community. The victims of last week's shooting and the entire community deserve a thorough investigation that will get to the bottom of this heinous crime - an investigation that must be grounded in facts and evidence, not myth and bias.

"When questioning the realities of the September 11th attacks and the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, Sheriff John Hanlin posited a simple question - 'Who can we trust anymore?' He has made clear to Oregonians that it surely is not him."

2. And now you're gonna reap what you've sown, Hanlin.

Good riddance to you, I say. Because to me, a sheriff who pledges not to enforce a law needs to be out in the parking lot on his ass. Who the hell can we trust to uphold laws if not sheriffs? You don't uphold the law, we don't uphold your office!

You're a dirtbag, Hanlin.

So Sanctuary city sheriffs need to resign? They are not following the law. Yes I am fine with it but your statement is too far.

She said someone was going to buy the gun and the owner was explaining how they would have to go to a dealer to have the new background check conducted. A woman rushed up and told them that it wasn't necessary because Roseburg had decided not to follow that law. The transaction was completed on the spot. That's a true story. Yesterday. In Roseburg.

The dreaded word "registration"

Sell the gun and you have to report the sale. If it's used in a crime the cops go straight to the last owner of record.

as this is a prime example of lawlessness they are trying to prevent.

If I were a citizen in that town, & had a gun to sell (which I wouldn't & especially at a garage sale), I would never bypass the laws despite Hanlin's obstinate ideology. I'd never be stupid enough to listen to him, or risk disobeying such an important law.

11. You can't dismiss him, he's an elected official.

He would have to either be recalled, doubtful in that city, lose the next election, doubtful, or be removed because of criminal misconduct, and even that is iffy.

It was part of Eagle Point. Talk about no intelligence. When I helped Bill Clinton in his first campaign, I never ran into more idiots at any time in my life. And when you campaign for a Dem in Grants Pass, they look at you as if you're an alien or something. There are a few good Dem's in Medford. And many more in Ashland. But outside those town's, forget it.

Just saying. I drove across the country about ten years back, and there is NO progressive radio once you leave the major metro area, and some of those places we stopped for food were eerie at best.

I feel like I step back into the Ozarks just about any time I'm not near a metropolitan area, and that's just a sad statement.

But back to the radio.....I would often pick up three or four stations with rush, vannity and other reich wing blabber mouths; and at least half the stations were evangelical religious babble. Those folks are living in the dark ages out there. I'm not saying THEY are cave men or anything less than good folks; but their media buzz is nearly all crazy bat-shit religious garbage or reich wing hate talk shows.

It's tough to feel open and free in a place where the people are info-starved.

The Brady Campaign just doesn't have that kind of pull and may well do more harm to their own cause than help.
