Christopher Columbus unambiguously committed genocide in Hispaniola.

The "Columbus Day" holiday is not a big deal to me. Americans need all the holidays we can get, and most corporations don't allow us recognize Columbus Day in any case. Get back to work, you lazy wage slaves!

I do not blame Columbus for mistakenly calling Native Americans "Indians." And I understand the guy was a product of his times, just as the Founding Fathers of the United States were.

But he and his son did commit atrocities in Hispaniola that would be rightfully condemned as genocide if they were committed today.

Knowledge is power. It is important that we face our true history, warts and all, rather than celebrate our false, whitewashed mythology.
