Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan J. Wilson, 26, is the 1,974th U.S. death in the war.
(CNN) -- A U.S. sailor who died last week of medical complications was the 3,000th death among coalition forces in the Afghanistan war, according to CNN's count based on information provided by the U.S. Defense Department and the International Security Assistance Force.
Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan J. Wilson, 26, of Shasta, California, died May 20 in Manama, Bahrain, the Defense Department reported in an e-mail sent Friday.
Wilson, assigned to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain, was supporting the Afghanistan mission, the e-mail said.
He was the 1,974th U.S. death in the war that started October 7, 2001, and the 3,000th overall death from the U.S.-led international coalition engaged in Operation Enduring Freedom.

I'm sure there's a good reasons to stay two more years, then leave.

"Too late. We're gonna war."
The reasons for staying two more years are economic, as George W Bush said: "Money trumps peace."
All the money in the world won't bring back Petty Officer 1st Class Wilson.

(12,121 posts)"Yes please accept. We don't want to get embroiled in a war over there that will bankrupt our country and cost thousands of lives," I remember thinking.
And some lame excuse like there were conditions on the offer and we won't take no stinkin' conditions was put forward and treated as acceptable by the opinion leaders.
"We're the USA! We don't accept conditions from terrorists!" They made it sound like a tough, principled stance.
We chose instead to start two wars and torture people.

(14,180 posts)positions been reversed.
To wit, the Afghan government offered to turn bin Laden over to the World Court if we showed it the evidence against him. Colin Powell promised the release of a 'white paper' but, AFAIK, said white paper was never released.
Now consider that the shoe were on the other foot for a moment. Let's say the Afghan government accused YOU of killing 3,000 of its citizens and demanded you be turned over to face justice. Wouldnt' you want your government to insist upon reviewing the evidence before just turning you over?????
Hypocrites R Us.
