Remember Opal Covey, the woman running for mayor in Toledo, Ohio who speaks in tongues and is a self-described “prophetess”?

Because she’s still in the race, a local news team interviewed her as part of the station’s mayoral race coverage. It’s fairly obvious both anchors think she’s batshit crazy. The interview involves questions about Covey calling a local business “Satanic,” whether her “prophet talk” will scare businesses from moving to Toledo, her claims that she had previous elections stolen from her, and her conviction on animal cruelty charges.

5. When the wackiness started to appear outside the church

and they'd get random messages from god even in the supermarket, we used to be able to get them committed to a state mental hospital, put on some nice drugs, and eventually sent home without those voices.

Now we have no more state hospitals, Republicans have steadfastly refused to fund local facilities, and the crazies are out on the street with their families unable to get them help.

Republicans think that's great since they've got the religious crazy vote sewn up.

8. Our current Toledo mayor died in January

So we have 7 people running for Mayor at the moment, including his widow. No primary per charter.

Opal has run for Mayor many times. No one took her serious until now, because it's only going to take 14% of the vote to win. If enough people think it's funny and vote for her, we get her.

10. Let's not forget our other Mayor with Personality Disorders:

Carty Finkbeiner, 2-time Mayor, running again this year. He made a comment about managing the noise at the local airport by having deaf people move there. David Letterman had him on because the comment was so outrageous. There at one point was a video of the Letterman appearance, but it's gone. I can see Carty sending threatening emails to youtube to remove it OR ELSE.

Carty is known for his rage-filled outbursts and stupid, ignorant statements. He's also a wife-beater. He could win again too.

I hate this town. Only 2 more years until I'm old enough for Soc. Sec. and can move.

16. I was listening to her give an interview on the radio today

The host called her out on her "speaking in tongues" and Covey got mad and left. I think the interview lasted 3 minutes.


However after the interview the show did make the point that we are basically making fun of a woman that is obviously very mentally ill. So now I feel kind of bad about it.
