(19,362 posts)then we will know its verifiable
It seems like candidates who have a real good chance of winning their Party's nomination this late in the game automatically get it.
There has to be a real good chance of them getting the Party nomination. Carson and Trump have it. Seems like Rubio will get it too. Bernie may, if he can go up a little in the polls.

The Secret Service DOES NOT determine who qualifies for protection, nor is the Secret Service empowered to independently initiate candidate protection.
Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidental candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.
Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates:
Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others
Criteria have been established to assist the DHS Secretary and the advisory committee in their decision making (as of 2008). Candidates must:
Be publically announced
Have some degree of prominence as shown by opinion polls
Be actively campaigning and entered in at least 10 state primaries
Be seeking the nomination of a qualified party
Have qualified for matching funds in the amount of at least $100,000
Have received contributions totaling $10 million
Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) states that the U.S. Secret Service is also authorized to protect spouses of major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, as identified by the DHS Secretary, within 120 days of the general Presidential election. Some candidates have received protection earlier in the campaign pursuant to Presidential memoranda.

(22,651 posts)assassination, on the Chris Hayes show? Got to assume Russia must have lost something in their translation work OR this information came from Russia torturing some IS people they captured and those people will say anything.
With Donald Trumps policy positions on the Middle East mirroring Russias however, this report says, he has been reviled by the warmongers in the United States (of both parties) since July, 2000, when he released his book titled The America We Deserve which a full 14 months prior to the 11 September 2001 (9/11) attacks predicted not only this horrific crime would happen, but actually stated that Osama bin Laden would be blamed.
In fact, this report warns, so feared is Donald Trump by his nations warmongers should he take power and uncover all of their secrets, top establishment Republican consultant Rick Wilson in an interview with MSNBCs Chris Hayes last week actually called for his assassination, and as, in part, one can read from the transcript:
Trump is still a very powerful force right now because he appeals to part of the of the conservative base that Wilson said was activated by his nativist message. Wilson insisted that the donor class cant just sit back on the sidelines and say, oh well, dont worry, this will all work itself out.
Theyre still going to have to go out and put a bullet in Donald Trump, Wilson said. And thats a fact.

(6,398 posts)If they hit a high profile presidential candidate, it goes a long way in their advertising and recruiting efforts. Perhaps even funding too.
The USA doesn't want that to happen and neither does Russia.
it's interesting how Russia picked it up and not our own intel

(6,398 posts)...After the Cold War, it seems they've abandoned gathering info and reacting to full blown pro-active, as in, achieve imperialist mission goals as a high priority. Hence why we didn't see the unrest develop in Iraq after we invaded, the birth of IS, Russia taking Crimea without a shot, etc. GWB ignored the intel on Bin Laden, because he probably didn't think anyone would be audacious enough to attack the US. I'm speculating that the CIA has a lot of the same attitude, take out the target and everything else will follow through. Obviously, its not working that way.
Whereas other nations are still prefer gathering info and reacting to it, hence Russia able to counter Georgia's offensive, move into Syria faster than we could react, Egypt's military willingness to wait out the Muslim Brotherhood to hang itself, etc.
