Tomorrow is Election Day, Folks!

All across the country, the polls are open tomorrow. Most of these elections are for local offices, like mayor, city council, county commissions, school boards, bond measures and other such issues.

Odd year elections have absolutely the lowest turnouts of any elections, it seems. Here's why you should vote:

Your vote counts more in odd year elections than in any other election. Your vote is also crucial, since those local officials and measures on the ballot affect you in your day to day life.

Winning margins in these off-year elections are often very small. Your vote could make all the difference.

Please Go To The Polls and Vote on Election Day!

3. No elections here

Either for state (IL) or local (Chicago, Cook County). That's 3 MAJOR government entities that are NOT having elections tomorrow. So I might amend your OP to say that it's possible there are local elections. It could scare people or make them waste time trying to find out about it. Frankly, most places have them only in even years, in conjunction with federal elections. (For City of Chicago elections, these are held usually in February of alternate years)

Especially if you don't already know and it's the day before.

and someone tells you something is happening, and you have to drop everything to spend 10 or 15 minutes to find out it's not happening, yes, it is a bit of an imposition.

All I was saying is that no, it is not election day across the country everywhere.

I read a daily local (as well as national) newspaper and listen to an hour-long local public affairs program on television several times a week. I'd not heard of an election here (and have never missed an election in 45 years), but I had to stop and go to the (very slow) Board of Election website to double check that there was none.

Also local races - county council and various local municipal races.

The State Supreme Court race in Pennsylvania is crucial. There are 3 seats up and these judges will help decide everything from fracking regulations (or lack thereof), to legality of the redistricting plan that the republican legislature comes up with, to pension reforms.

I know people are overwhelmed with day to day life decisions but this election is really important. I wish more people paid attention.

The TV ads for the judges have been brutal. I hope people are not so turned off that they decide to stay home.
