Investigators with 'significant new information' about the fatal shooting of Charles Gliniewic are expected to reveal the Chicago police officer committed suicide when he died in early September.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is holding a news conference Wednesday to share the new details and it is anticipated officials will announce Gliniewicz committed suicide due to personal issues.
A legal investigation into Gliniewicz may also have been a factor, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

(2,256 posts)He ran the Police "Explorers" group in Fox Lake... a group for 14-21 yr olds that hoped to grow up to be cops... he "trained" them by creating staged crime scenes so they would learn how to look at a crime. I think he stole money from that group too.
What a mess - I guess in he end he didn't want to deprive his wife and kids of the pension money. Greed, arrogance and hubris - there are no words.

(3,263 posts)family would get higher pension payout for being murdered on the job so add heartless scum to your list
They claim the manhunt of 400 cops and helicopters for a 24 day cost $300K . Journalists locally are already crying bullshit

(65,616 posts)Wouldn't there be fingerprints from someone else on the gun, also wouldn't he have gunpowder residue on his hand if he shot himself?
Sad story, to be sure.

(269,186 posts)He sure created quite a feast for the 'war on cops' posse and media hacks. He managed to earn a hero's send off - clearly corrupt beyond belief.

(65,616 posts)They all must feel like someone just punched them hard in the gut. All of them trying to catch their breath in disbelief.
Not the mention the hundreds of people who lined the route for his send off.
The question is how were they investigating him for so long and no alarm bells went off - seems as if the higher ups were more interested in the 'war on cops' meme.

(65,616 posts)That the tragectory and distance from the gun fired would tell them something. Foot prints, tire tracks etc.. They must have all been running around without comparing notes. Once the various agencies looked over their notes they noticed something fishy about the officer.
Sad it took all this to get there. Yeah the hundreds of people in good faith. Sad.
malaise
(269,186 posts)before looking at the facts. The residue should have been the first clue. If this is the truth , it is shocking. If it is not then he may be the scapegoat for bigger thieves.

(65,616 posts)He shot himself and hit his vest the first time. The second shot hit a part of his unprotected torso. Again I am dumb, but that just sounds like a really bad way to kill yourself. And it wouldn't be valid to a well trained police force. So yeah...foul play, maybe someone up the food chain is committing fraud and the cop was just the little fish.
I feel so sorry for the people that got involved in this in good faith, I hope this does not jade their view of the world. AGAIN, you point out something that really needs to be addressed - they believed him blindly and recklessly, because of a piece of metal he wears on his shirt.
Time for a policy change. Cops are human and prone to do the EXACT same things as we civilians do...that needs to be realized and soon.

(23,272 posts)So very few folks actually donated which leads me to wonder if a lot of people knew something was fishy right from the start.

(65,616 posts)If nothing else, the PD and some bigger fish know something. It would even be more disgusting (imo) if they used he death to start this fake War on Cops. Ongoing investigations will probably keep it all under wraps.

(3,263 posts)investigation but since it is still ongoing no idea what will come out in the future.
I believe the chief had already stepped down before the death occurred
War on community more like it. He tried to get 3 people in jail for life as a last act
One of the groups he was stealing from was a group of kids to pay for porn and gym memberships.
Guy on TV just said many suspected the force knew this was a suicide long time ago and that this is pension fraud . Yep more like war on the community not cops

(23,272 posts)His death was painted as part of the whole "war on cops".
Huge send off. Big fundraising drive for his family.
Now it turns out he was just another crooked cop. I wonder how the Chicago media will play the story now?
Person 2713
(3,263 posts)coroner who said it was suicide and a lot of editorials since it happened asking what is going on with the case and what is holding up the conclusion for so long
They had published and TV reports on the difference in pension his family would get if the board ruled murder in line of duty vs suicide
Also publishing and TV reporting info about the ongoing investigation of the fox lake police force as a whole
Local stations just preempted and ran the whole conference here
After the conference one commentator said the amount they claimed the big manhunt cost is way off ,basically bs . That the is cost way over what the force is claiming for 400 cops and helicopters in manhunt. I wouldn't say the are trying to hide or protect cops on this one
Of course I guess it depends on what one reads , listens to or watches but even the local Fox station wanted answers and brought up tension between the coroner and police in Fox Lake and how they tried to side step his authority on the case over a month ago
My question would be how is that police force going to play this

(23,272 posts)Thanks for the updates! I don't have a teevee so I tend to rely on Internet and papers.
I'm thinking the entire Fox Lake police force is about to get burned.
There's a bad smell coming off....
Peace!

(3,263 posts)I have picked their paper up in the past and enjoyed their racist slants . They were almost funny
Also they are big in NW burbs so they can't make waves for Fox Lake I presume
Like I said I guess it depends on your outlets but many local ones have pushed for the truth on this including paper editorials
