Ben Carson Seems to Have a Serious Personal Honesty Problem

—By Kevin Drum | Fri Nov. 6, 2015 7:00 PM EST

... Then: "Three years ago I had an endowed chair bestowed upon me....I’m proud to say that part of that $2.5 million came from Mannatech."

Now: He now denies that any of the money for the endowed chair actually came from Mannatech. "He simply got things mixed up," a campaign spokesman said. That seems a little unlikely since Carson made this claim in a prepared speech given at a Mannatech sales conference ...

Then: "I'm suggesting we do what we need to do to secure the border whatever that is....You look at some of these caves and things out there one drone strike, boom, and they'd gone."

Now: "It was quite clear what I was talking about. That drones are excellent for surveillance" ...

"Several sections of [ ..] Ben Carson’s 2012 book America the Beautiful were plagiarized from various sources, BuzzFeed News has found....In one instance, Carson cites wholesale from an old website that has been online since at least 2002, Socialismsucks.net."

"Socialismsucks.net" Wow, now there's a real scholarly source!

and strongly believe in absolute truths. They are extremely uncomfortable with ambiguity and usually rush to resolve it. In their minds there is no such thing as a square peg that cannot be squished into one of their absolutely round holes.

So, no surprise that irrationality is a normal mode of behavior for them as they force conformity of new ideas or realities with their absolute truths. Another way of viewing this is that dishonest thinking is a constant, normal mode.

They tend to rock-hard conceit about their true superior wisdom and very strong belief in their superior righteousness, which can and does lead some to sin badly and commit actual crimes and still believe in their own righteousness and virtue. Yeah, I know. But it happens a lot.

Given all this, I wonder if Dr. Carson even recognizes his dishonesty -- as he would apply the term to the behavior of OTHERS -- realization not being one of his strong points but righteousness and self-deception very much so.
