Trump's bombing pales next to SNL's & Larry DAVID's total denigration against Hispanics

Many here will say that it's not comedy's role to be ideological, fine. We can leave that point here, that the whole thing was unfunny throughout. The cold opening set the bar for not being funny, but from the moment TRUMP stepped out, something was odd. He came forward sluggishly, without the usual bouncing of all other SNL hosts, yes "low energy." As the whole show lumbered along in total lameness, I wondered whether the writers and cast were doing it all in silent protest, to give TRUMP the worst context possible.

But the slams against Hispanics were stunning, beginning with Larry DAVID's mocking and undermining the Latino protesters' own meme against them, "TRUMP is a racist. I heard they were paying $5 thousand if I said that. (Shrugs)"

Then was the "president of Mexico" delivering a check for building the wall.

And Michael CHE, who had otherwise delivered a little poke at "rich old white guys" making his "negro senses start tingling," went on to say about Taco Bell (Taco Bell itself being a jerky stereotype), "I thought they got their staff from NONSENSICAL WORDS" (while a listing of menu items in the SPANISH LANGUAGE scrolled behind him.

Way to help a dangerous, nativist demagogue and his starstruck NBC enablers laugh off very valid criticism, you prick. I shouldn't be surprised. This is, after all, the guy who tried to trivialize Michael Richards' bigotry.

NOT HUGE
Trump Bombs Terribly as SNL Host—Is This the Beginning of the End?
Matt WILSTEIN

.... When Trump’s monologue began, you could have been forgiven for thinking NBC was re-airing his 2004 appearance. Darrell Hammond even reprised his role as Trump impersonator, in addition to his recent replacement Taran Killam. Trump had to rely on SNL’s resident Bernie Sanders, Larry David, yelling, “You’re a racist!” from off-stage for the biggest laugh of the show up to that point.

For the first sketch after the monologue, the SNL writers valiantly imagined the White House as it will look in 2018 when President Donald Trump has been in office for more than a year. He tweets laws and added the word “huge” to the National Anthem! And there’s the president of Mexico delivering the money for that wall Trump promised along the border. “Consider it an apology for doubting you,” he tells Trump. “Nothing brings two countries together like a wall.”

After an underwhelming appearance by his daughter Ivanka that seemed to barely register as a surprise cameo with the crowd, Trump proceeded to break the fourth wall and commit the cardinal sin of comedy: explaining the joke.

“If you think that’s how it’s going to be when I’m president, you’re wrong. It’s going to be even better,” he said. “I said to the writers of this sketch, keep it modest, OK? It’s better to start with low expectations, that way you have nowhere to go but up.” ....

“Whenever rich old white guys start bringing up the good old days, my negro senses start tingling,” he said. “All those years of progress, Trump’s going to really go, ‘No, I think we had it right the first time?’”

1. I actually thought Larry David was bashing himself, not Hispanics.

I think it could be construed as stereotypical greedy rich Jewish guy joke.

His Bernie in the cold open was again spot-on, great satire not fawning over his greatness, so I was expecting that to ruffle feathers among the Ber-lievers.

I mean...getting upset over the show mocking a group that put a "bounty" on disruption...complete silly season.

I thought the sketches Trump was in were largely boring and unfunny, not untypical for this SNL group. I don't think it did anything positive for his campaign.

think that Trump is finished in the political arena, just because of a crappy SNL appearance?

Ludicrous.

Very few of the type that will vote for Trump even watch SNL, as they consider it a left-leaning cheerleader for any Democratic candidate or the actions of elected Democrats.

The ones that did tune in and watch, will make excuses to the effect that they, whoever "they" are, intentionally wrote and directed the show in order to present Trump in the worst possible light.

Those that actually present a negative critique of Trump will be labeled as "haters" and "stupid liberals".

Ain't nobody gonna win but NBC, who can go to sponsors and say: "Hey look how popular we are with all cross-sections of the viewing audience!"

Revenues will rise for NBC.

Democracy will lose, both sides will claim a victory.

And the sun will rise in the east, again.

Where did I ever say I was supporting Donald Trump in this election?

Or any goddamned election?

Or under any goddamned circumstances, whatsoever?

Are you still beating your wife?

Hmmm...

6. Does everybody find David's portrayal of Sanders funny? I am still an undecided , not feeling

the bern but the way this guy is portraying Sanders is very not funny to me.
Lines like" so left he could never win". The old miser references etc. is if just me?
Scripting in the protest to mock the protestors .
Envisioning Trumps America as successful for the nation with the only remaining problem after he is president being that everyone has too much It was all bad to me .
Maybe I am not having the humor I should about it but David has done this Sanders impersonation twice. Though I suppose Palin supporters thought Tina Fey cruel and the pendulum does have to swing both ways in comedy
