I am sadden to hear the news out of Paris. These attacks are horrible and disturbing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Paris community and those were there visiting.

(2,493 posts)That you aren't attempting to politicize the deaths of hundreds at the hands of terrorists. But please let me know if I'm wrong, and you in fact are attempting to make a political point on the blood of innocents.

(42,757 posts)Anyone who has no regard for human life and justifies it with the blessing of their own personal Sky Pilot is not a rational thinking human being.
But religulous carnage is very much a creature of the Abrahamic fairytales.

(1,009 posts)This is as stupid as blaming guns for mass shootings.
Group A killing Group B is made possible by dehumanizing classes of "other" people, along with a deemphasizing of individual rights in favor of the collective. Add some totalitarianism, and it occurs at mass scale.
This has nothing in particular to do with Abrahamic religions (it predates them), and can happen under the guise of anything: Commission, Naziism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, or just about anything else.

And that's just the last thousand years.
Try again.

(1,009 posts)Let's diversify a little bit from your Eurocentric, Christian centric viewpoint...
-Communists (atheists) murdered millions last century
-Nazis (pagans) murdered millions last century
-Cambodians(Budhists) murdered millions last century
These three non christian groups account for hundreds of millons dead in recent contemporary history.
Again, I'll state that it's totalitarianism combines with deemphasizing individual rights that's causes systematic mass murder. History clearly teaches this lesson to those open minded enough to listen.

(33,688 posts)Every one of the things you mention happened. Though the Cambodian massacre was motivated by an extreme form of Maoism. Buddhism had zero to do with it. Every one of the atrocities I mentioned was committed specifically in the name of xtianity. Facts are facts.
But xtianity has been visiting horrors of various kinds on the world for 2000 years, and Islam for about 1200. No contest.
The three examples I gave are from the last century..
The death toll (hundreds of millions) from these systematic massacres commited by non Abrahamic peoples is staggering and exceeds the total of all massacres committed by Christians jews, and Muslims by an order of magnitude.
This should be enough to demolish your argument. I could continue to go back further and give examples from centuries past, but I don't have the time. Suffice it to say that:
-Abrahamic people are no more prone to systematic violence than others
-it's not the religion, but other factors, like culture, totalitarianism, commitment of a group to individual liberty
