It probably doesn't need to be said at DU (I would hope), but this showed up on my Facebook feed, and I thought it was sobering and worth sharing. Too many lives have been lost and too much hatred spread. I don't understand it...

(8,287 posts)that the moderate peaceful muslims will come out of the woodwork to show their disgust with this slaughter and show us that these barbaric men do not represent them!
god damn it, why haven't they done something...anything to show that to the rest of us?

(4,973 posts)but they also are in denial about how their religion helped create and maintain this monster. Once they admit this, they will realize they have a role in eradicating it.

(39,215 posts)And that is what makes it impossible for us or any "Christian nation" to stop it. This war was started a long time ago and merely restarted first by the people in the post WWII era who installed new leadership in many ME nations and redrew the lines of the nations themselves and then restarted again by the bush oil barons from Texas.
IMO the best thing we could do is get our nose out of their business, ask the UN (?) to convene a peace conference of all the ME countries and let them work it out. That is the only way we can hope to do this peacefully.
But war has consequences and there would still be groups or individuals that would want to punish us for what we did. That means the terrorism probably will not stop for years to come. On the other hand war will never stop if we do not try something.

(960 posts)Maybe there are muslims that speak up but aren't covered by the media. Gotta keep the hate going, maybe.

(8,287 posts)western media isn't showing that point of view.

(46,436 posts)moderate Muslims' condemnation of these acts. Considering that Muslims are far and away the largest group of victims of ISIS, I feel fairly certain that the group is condemned daily by the people in those countries. Forty-two people were killed in Beirut by ISIS suicide bombers just a couple days ago. Unless we were paying particular attention, we probably didn't even hear about that here in the West.
I have a photographer Facebook friend in Duhok, Iraq, who has sometimes posted heartbreaking photos of the child refugees displaced by DAESH, as ISIS is called there. He also posts about the brave Kurdish fighters, about the scholars and poets who protest the acts of these savages. I think our media keeps a lot from us unless we really go digging, and most people in the West aren't inclined to do that.

(68,918 posts)It should be a no-brainer, especially for "Christians" who never feel the need to speak out when "Christians" attack abortion clinics. Bullshit. and that's all I have to say about that. They don't HAVE to.

(51 posts)Americans need to understand that it is the saudies that are responsible for these attacks they export this militant brand of fundemental brand Islam it is Wahhabism! Who benefits from this Zionist israel and the theocratic United states. America is the largest exporter of arms and Israel and Saudi Arbia are the largest benefactors of these arm sales. America has a connection to this atrocity!

(7,901 posts)He engineered the drive to invade Iraq, along with fellow Neo-Cons: Rove, Rumsfeld, et al. The invasion led to the disbanding of the Iraqi Army which led directly to the founding and leadership of ISIL...along with the months and years of invasion and terror inflicted by US and NATO forces which inspired many angry new participants in the violent extremes we are seeing played out in Paris, Syria and far too many other places.
When I pray for Peace and Justice it is very difficult to imagine a world where Rumsfeld, Cheney and other fellow war criminals are arrested and called to account. I can imagine that in a part of the world where the rule of law has no weight at all the temptation to personally attack those who have caused my griefs would indeed appear the only justice which could apply.
My president bears some of the blame as well, regrettably. The continuing and too frequently inaccurate Drone wars have increased the feeling among many that the only thing the "Great Powers" fear is exactly what happened in Paris.

Why is that?
