OMG. My dear friend left for Paris yesterday...

I've emailed her to let me know whether her flight from JFK even departed yesterday evening. It probably would have been around 6 or 7 pm EST. Perhaps the attacks in Paris were already happening or had happened by then. She might have gotten an alert from her airline before she left for the airport.

Perhaps they were already enroute and her flight was directed elsewhere, in which case she is probably too busy to respond so I'll just wait nervously. Her daughter is in Paris and I wonder how she is. My friend was joking that she was going to support her daughter and see to her needs and will get her "mother of the year" award. I joked back that we'd have to hold a pity party for her...

We're too old to think this type of siutation is some kind of "adventure."

JUST GOT EMAIL FROM HER: She is in Boston. Cancelled flight. It's all I need to know. Sheesh...that was close.

hope those kids won't take any chances. However, they will have some story to tell when they get back.

The news reporters were saying that the attackers were concentrating on working class neighborhoods -- not the tourist spots like the Louvre -- because they had a better chance, security wise, to just kill indiscriminately.

Let us know what you are learning as things develop...

Barbara and I travel to Europe together often. We are going to Sicily at the end of April 2016. Of course, we'll be connecting through Rome and I was wondering how safe any European capital is going to be in the near future. I know the travel companies don't have insurance against terror attacks. I'm hoping Rome won't be on the list the terrorists have plans for...

8. I'm so glad her flight had a stop in Boston before going on to Paris, giving them enough time

to learn of what was unfolding in their destination. That was a close call, indeed.

However, her trip also included a trip to Madrid. I don't know if she wants to rebook that or if things are just too iffy. I'd be in no shape to go myself but she is intrepid...
