A relative just got laid off

She is 20 and lives with her parents. So it could be much worse.

Although 20 years old could survive a 40 or 50 year old probably could not afford a negative endorsement.

4. VZ has been getting hit hard the last few weeks, talk was about a 20% RIF. What some thought

were humorous was the day after they were RIFed, their positions were being refilled in the corp site by new hires.

5. That's happened five times

over the course of my career. Fun times. It does get worse as one ages, attempts raising family and takes on more responsiblity. Used to be one was given a few months, then a few weeks but now it's just get out! The ship is going down! So sorry that happened to her. Hope she finds something better and more secure ASAP.

6. I can commiserate. I got laid off this past Friday.

Sadly, I don't live with my parents and I wasn't at the company long enough (a year and 5 months) to get a decent severance package. Though I will be getting one, it'll mostly consist of my accumulated vacation time they owe me by law.

I applied for unemployment today (which probably won't be enough to cover my car payment and rent for the month, let alone my other bills). Fingers crossed I'll find a new position soon.
