Syrian refugee settled in Baton Rouge disappears shows up in Washington DC.

State leaders blasted the feds Monday for not alerting them about 14 Syrian refugees who were resettled in Louisiana. It's unclear when they arrived.

The majority of them are in the New Orleans area, but one came to Baton Rouge two months ago. WBRZ has learned Catholic Charities helped the refugee who settled in Baton Rouge, but said the immigrant left for another state after a couple of days, and they don't know where the refugee went since they don't track them.

Monday, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order preventing the resettlement of Syrian refugees into Louisiana. The order prohibits state resources from being used for the refugees. However, that order does not apply to nonprofits and has no effect on the organization that helps refugees.

"We're at the receiving end," Executive Director of Catholic Charities, Chad Aguillard said. "We receive them, we welcome them into our community and help them resettle. There has been a lot of commotion and fear with Syrians. The fear is justified, but we have to check that against reality."

Louisiana State Police (LSP) and Catholic Charities have told the Hayride that they do know the location of the so-called “missing” Syrian refugee who was resettling in the Baton Rouge area earlier this week.

LSP spokesman Doug Cain said that it is not Catholic Charities’ job to monitor refugees, but rather the State Department’s job. Catholic Charities also mentioned that federal agencies are aware of where the refugee is.

Previously, the Hayride re-iterated a WBRZ report in which Catholic Charities apparently did not know where the Syrian migrant had gone.

Though refugees are not labeled as criminals and are not treated as such, the “screening process” and monitoring process by the State Department has been questioned.

Update at 7:00 pm: WBRZ has confirmed with the Louisiana State Police that a Syrian refugee who had originally resettled in Baton Rouge, has traveled to Washington DC to apparently resettle with family in the area.

Update at 2:15 pm: Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is reporting that he has spoken with State Police officials and they have told him that they do not know the exact whereabouts of the Syrian refugee who has apparently left the Baton Rouge area. Vitter also said that officials said the refugee is believed to be headed to Washington DC.

It's a weak point to the fact that once here there is little control over their movements or motives.

He didn't "go missing". He filled out an application to move to Washington, D.C. with family, was approved, and went.

The local Catholic Charities got death threats over this when it was something that started on a stupid "news" blog and did not reflect the entire truth.
