Georgia Inmate Marcus Ray Johnson Denied Beer as Last Meal

Not The Onion!

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/lethal-injection/georgia-inmate-marcus-ray-johnson-denied-beer-last-meal-n465756

A Georgia death-row inmate scheduled for execution on Thursday requested a six-pack of beer as his last meal and was turned down, prison officials said.

As a result, Marcus Ray Johnson will be given the regular meal: baked fish, cheese grits, beans, cole slaw, cookies and fruit punch.

"His request was declined as alcohol is a contraband item," the Georgia Department of Corrections said in a statement....

If it happens, Johnson will be the first inmate Georgia puts to death since Kelly Ann Gissendaner, who was executed in September despite a plea for mercy from Pope Francis.

(bzzzzzzzzzzt) Thanks, but I wanted a Bud Light!

edit: Cheese grits? I think he may have grounds for appeal under the cruel and unusual punishment clause.

I'm not surprised - booze isn't allowed in prison. LiberalElite Nov 2015 #12

It's weird, it's not the execution methods or the various fuckups with the execution methods, it's not the viewing by witnesses--the last meal custom really brings home the barbarity of condemning a prisoner to death for me.

You should have been there the time oasis' wife (they're African American) started to explain to my seemingly Yankee self what grits were, not realizing I had lived in NOLA for two years.

I haven't even read what his crime was, but no matter how heinous, can't you give a guy a beer before you kill him?

He was convicted of murdering a woman, a woman whom he admitted to punching in the nose after she asked him to snuggle following their having sex in his American made truck. I don't have sympathy for redneck misogynists.
