Because by the time gun season for deer comes in the fawns would be much bigger
and their spots would be gone .... deer hunting is in the fall and winter and this picture
was taken in the spring. It might be early summer.

I spend a lot of time mushroom hunting at my brothers 500 acres of ozark foot hills and see a lot of deer and they are beautiful.

I have to admit that when I was a kid we lived off the game we harvested or it was a large part of our diet but as I've gotten older I no longer can do that.

I'm not sure if handling them and playing with them was a good idea or not; or is it an urban
legend that the mother will reject them for being in contact with humans?

Sister Saville called Ron this morning to report that there was a baby deer in her yard and she didn't see the mother anywhere. When Ron got there he found Sister Saville holding a darling fawn. They found another one and Ron brought them both home. There were huge mowers in the Saville's yard and they think that the mother got scared away, they were also worried that the the babies would get hit by the mowers. Sister Saville called again and had found a third fawn! Ron took them to Ken and Jane's garage until the mowers were finished. So we played with them and tried to feed them. After the mowers were gone Ron took them back to the Saville's yard in hopes that their mother will find them. When he checked later they were gone. Hopefully the family was reunited and they will live happily ever after

Yes, unfortunately kind hearted people think a fawn has been abandoned when its mother has just left it for awhile.

Best to leave them be, but in this case (the mowers eek!) it seems they did the right thing.

Or, they think they are hiding.

Someone should be contacted that will raise them into adulthood. I suppose they can be bottle fed on WHOLE cow's milk. No 1% milk please.

in the spring, he always went looking around for babies, just in case. There are so many up here. We raised them all with whole milk from our old Holstein.

These two little ones are absolutely adorable.

They both need feeding a LOT, and are the sweetest things. They play like puppies, chasing and jumping and following every step.

My Dad didn't realize the gift he was giving the nine of us when he brought those little fawns home - they never had a chance - of not being completely spoiled, that is. I used to sneak my blankets up to the loft of the barn sometimes and take the baby up for the night. A dozen or so little kittens and a sweet fawn - all to myself!, with the smell of fresh hay - I can still feel how wonderful that was.

These are pictures of my Brutus meeting a new friend while I pulled someone out with the backhoe. They sniffed and stood with each other for about fifteen minutes occasionally touching noses and just chilling. Not sure where mom was, probably afraid of the machinery.
