But I don't travel much and I just found out.

So I'm driving from Cape Cod to Washington D.C. trying to listen to NPR, my usual source for radio news etc. I notice vast stretches of Connecticut have no coverage but in those areas there is no problem finding Rush Limbaugh etc. Eventually I give up trying to get anything and settle for some music.

Then, My brother and I head out for the midwest in his car...its a wedding.... and I'm telling him about the right wing overrunning the air waves.
He says no problem, and turns on his Sirius satellite radio. The left is back! Channel 127. All the guys I have read about on DU are there and telling it how it is. Tom Hartman and Ed Schultz etc.

Heads up, there's HOPE>

1. This is refreshing to hear. I recall more than once driving cross country picking up

only just about Rush Limbaugh.

3. While I was stationed in California

"a massive 'blue' state", the Navy sent me from Lemoore to San Diego for a course. On that stretch of I5, I could get Rush on 4 different AM radio stations at the same time.

It was weird, because on a couple, the timing was a little off. It was like being in time-delayed hell.

Did I mention that CA was a "blue" state? Either California couldn't support a liberal talker, or there is some kind of conspiracy to ensure America gets saturated with Rush and local Rush mini-mes.

5. It's the latter. We were just talking here at home today how MSM has

polarized Americans with all of the RW media pounding so many Americans 7x24. It's no wonder the country is so F'ed up and many American's minds have melted away.

2. Sirius is a beacon of light in the vast wasteland of radio!

It came with our new car and then we upped our subscription. I couldn't live without it now. I love Stephanie Miller, Bill Press, and of course, Ed and Bill Press.

6. It was in my car for a short while to get us to get it. I got an email a couple of weeks again

wanting us to sign up for 6 months at $25.00 a month. I loved it. But we just can't afford it right now. How much do you pay for a year, if you don't mind me asking?

4. If only one could get progressive radio on non-subscription airwaves.

I had Sirius years ago, but cut it as the service was spotty when I tried to get reception in my home.

7. The last time I drove across the country, it was back and forth

through Dixie, NM to east central Florida. I'm delighted to report there were NPR stations all the way. When I'd left Boston 20 years earlier, there was a good one in Oxford, MS, and not much after that. On the way back, through Alabama, I tuned to AM radio for shits and giggles and found the most toxic right wing crap I've ever heard, worse even than what used to be on short wave, only. It was the height of the Judge Roy Moore flap. However, the shits and giggles were short lived as I tuned back in to NPR.

Friends have said the upper midwest is pretty much an NPR desert. If you don't like hillbilly music or right wing talk, you'd better have a good CD or MP3 player with you.

8. Satellite radio is literally a godsend

I live in red state hell where they play Rush 3 times a day and there is NO left wing talk radio. I would go crazy without my satellite radio.

12. I was mad when Sirius-XM cut back on Bill Press to have the same line up on both networks

He was great on my drive to work in the morning. Alex Bennett isn't near as good. So I listen to Morning Joe (MSNBC) on my way to work.

13. I feel very fortunate to live in a city with a free over-the-air progressive talk station.

I listen to AM 620 KPOJ every day. Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Norman Goldman, Mike Malloy, Bill Press.

If you have a smartphone with the I Heart Radio app, you can listen to it anywhere.

We have really good NPR, too.

But still, there are 8-10 rightie stations here, too. Often simulcast on both AM and FM. What a waste of broadcast spectra.

14. WCPT (Chicago) has a free 'listen online' option where you can hear Hartmann, Miller, Schultz, etc.
