GOP in panic over Trump

The Hill:

The Republican establishment is nearing full-blown panic about Donald Trump.

The demise of Trump’s candidacy has been predicted by centrist Republicans and the media alike virtually since the day it began. But there is no empirical evidence at all to suggest it is happening.

...snip...

Despite all that, Trump has led the RealClearPolitics (RCP) polling average in a virtually unbroken spell for four months. The only person to briefly wrest the lead away from him, Dr. Ben Carson, appears to be fading. And numerous polls show Trump drawing double the support of his closest establishment-friendly rival, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)

Add to all this the fact that Trump’s lead over the rest of the GOP field has expanded since the terrorist attacks in Paris, and it becomes clear why anxiety among his many Republican critics is reaching new heights.

Now it's turned on them.

Should've put the electrodes down and just sent Igor out for pizza, Dr. Frankenstein.

Trump will have a huge base vote...

...but Clinton will have a turnout operation (and the money to pay for it) to pull in the Democratic base and the sane, moderate Republicans scared to death of Trump.

She elicits such a visceral response in Republicans, they'll come out in droves to vote against her, not for Trump. There's still a huge reservoir of the disaffected who will vote for him.

Trump's batshit comments are LOVED by Republicans. My RW mother adores him - "he says all the non-PC stuff everyone thinks but won't say out loud".

The Republican Party has birthed this monster and Trump is such a narcissist he's going to ride this train to the end. He's like a crack addict -the high he's getting off all the adulation is like watching a car wreck.

Florida (must have)

Ohio
Pennsylvania

If not Ohio or then any two of Iowa/Colorado/Wisconsin. If not Pennsylvania then Iowa or Colorado and Wisconsin. Iowa/Wisconsin would put it into the House though.

I think Trump/Rubio or Cruz would be easier than a Rubio or Bush/Kasich ticket. I think you can pencil in Kasich as V.P. right now unless Trump gets the nomination.

Should any of the crazy town folks win the nomination they will need Kasich to get the full support of the Republican Party monied establishment who will insist on respectability being on that ticket. Love him or hate him - Kasich is their key to respectability.

The race will change if the vote isn't so divided. If everyone drops out except 3-4 people I think someone will eclipse him.

others didn't see coming and now that Trump is there, with his full-frontal bigotry and his big fat mouth, the other candidates can't get traction and have nothing prepared to appeal to voters, at least in percentages necessary to build momentum for primary gold.

Trump eclipsed Jeb, among others, and Jeb is so pathetic that Rubio has now passed him. Jeb's at around 6 or 7 percent nationally, even further down in the pecking order in Iowa. He's not looking too hot in New Hampshire either.

Trump is a xenophobic monster who's sucked all the oxygen out of the GOP warehouse. I hope he is not the nominee because he's a xenophobic monster, but if he prevails in Cleveland, I hope he takes all down-ballot Pukes with him.

has to be we are NOT in the beltway, or anywhere close to it, that has taken Trump VERY SERIOUSLY from day one. Alas some of us do get the dynamics at play.
