A Lot of People Think America is a Christian Holy Land
Ever since the Pilgrims and the First and Second Great Awakenings, there has been a very loud contingent in the U.S. who think that America was given to white people as a homeland for European overflow. We had Manifest Destiny and the Monroe Doctrine. It started as a WASP belief, specifically, and many of them still believe it, but it's come to encompass all white people, at least in the minds of some. This is one of the sources of our country's divisions right now. We need a national conversation about this.
