Do you hope that Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination?

Yes! He's such a loathsome buffoon that there's absolutely no way he can beat the Democrat next year!

No! The (slim) possibility of him winning the presidency is terrifying. I would prefer a saner Republican to win the nomination.

HRC is a weak establishment candidate with little to no indy/crossover appeal. There is far more than a slim possibility of Trump defeating HRC.

As for Bernie Sanders vs. Trump, now that is less predictable and very interesting to ponder.

I hope that Lindsey Graham wins the nomination.

gratifying if all the Republicans were to say, "Ya know, the job is just too hard, I would probably make more money doing something else, Lets just all quit and not run anyone. Besides, who wants to live in that cold and dusty old house anyway?"

As crazy and as bigoted as Trump seems to be, the others seem to be much worse and possess fewer left or centrist positions than Trump does. Trump would make an absolutely horrible president; but the others would be much, much worse.

They're all espousing abhorrent policies. I think we as democrats should be like the team that says 'I don't care who we play.' Never underestimate the strengths of the opponent. Do the ground work. Work hard in practice every day. Be prepared. Get our act together. Come game time do our absolute best and give them a whupping.

Buffoon or not he could win. We got not just one term of W but 8 painful years.

None of the GOP candidates has very much going on in the sanity dept.

events were to happen that unexpectedly threw the election to Trump?

But baring that - he would make the election entertaining and he would more than likely lose by a massive landslide with the GOP establishment maneuvering against him or giving him only the most feigned and watered down support.

Great question -- and one we should all be seriously thinking about.

I think that few things would serve as more accurate measures of the decay within our political system, than Trump winning the republican nomination. More, if he did, I think it would be possible for him to win the general election. And that is absolutely unacceptable.

Thank you for this.

Here is why. T-Rump is an openly racist bigot. Bigotry and racism cause stress on POC and it lowers their life expectancy. So, while I think T-Rump would get creamed in the GE, I don't want him stressing POC out. Come to think of it, that shit stresses me out too.

of the republican base, we seem destined to put up with such bile until their nominee is chosen.

Though he may be relatively easy to beat in 2016, his constant appeal to hatred, bigotry and our baser instincts may do long term damage to our country and world. Short term: he will be easy to beat in 2016. Longer term: the damage he does will not be worth the short term gain.
