I Wonder If This Country Is Screwed. We Are So Off The Rails Anymore.

Political debate is a joke that is hardly funny. And the media is completely out of touch or corrupt. Everything seems so twisted and we have a bunch of insane presidential candidates as never before in history.

I am amazed the GOP and its allies have been able to pull off so much bullshit and get away with it. I am stunned that what Reagan started in earnest seemingly is coming to pass.

3. Those of us that do care have to stay in it for the long game

because that's what it's going to take to turn around what has been done to our country. President Obama has been in office for almost 7 years and he has gotten a lot done even with the bunch of assholes in Congress. I'm thinking that it may take several decades to fix just the basic problems. In the meantime many more are going to die for our country in vain.

16. It is the long game, because it started even before Reagan to destroy The New Deal.

At least me as an older guy knows what they have been doing. It took me a long time to realize it and now we have to counteract the monied families who are centuries old and how they want what existed before the American Revolution, only they are in control.

They have nothing to do with Democracy.

Bernie's candidacy, Laudato si of Pope Francis, the challenge of Syrian refugees in the US, and the call from increasing numbers of people to turn away from Empire and toward Community - how we respond NOW will make or break us and the world.

Of unfettered bullshit from the likes of Fox News. The right has been emboldened over the past seven years and they have rarely been quashed by the "left leaning media". The extremists must be challenged and questioned at every turn or we risk turning this country over to the right wing evangelicals

I'm in it for the duration because I am certain there is no alternative than to participate as per my responsibility.

He was an extremely effective President.
The damage he did may last forever.

8. The other side of the aisle has flipped out

If there ever was any decent Republicans, they have fled the party, and what's left is the dregs. The low information, uncaring politician who's only real goal is money and power. And...the occasional ultra right religious politician whose only goal is to turn this country into a Corporate Theocratic Republic. The insane want to run the Mental ward, and it will become the new normal.

I think I actually said that on a post to you earlier. Not that whole great OP, just the wondering if it's too late.

I said it somewhere tonight. Hell getting old

Watching Newt Gingrich's 104th Congress convinced me the GOP had flipped out. I Got a job leading field work with the Sierra Club and later Minnesota Clean Water Action. Face to Face conversations on a doorsteps about politics will restore your faith in human nature. On the other hand you will realize that almost all American commercial media is worthless. I trained hundreds of proteges. Don't mourn, Organize.

that genuine assholes are few and far between. Once you walk away from mass media for a while, and the net is part of it, you start to realize people are fine, it's the minority of screechers on the net and the clueless media who think those screechers are where it's at in the country today who are useless and killing us. Out in the real world, it aint so bad.

However, the country as a whole does need to mellow out a bit. They can't legalize pot fast enough.
