Numbers 5:11-31New International Version (NIV)
11 Then the Lord said to Moses,
12 Speak to the Israelites and say to them: If a mans wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him
13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act),
14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impureor if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure
15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[a] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
16 The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord.
17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water.
18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse.
19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you.
20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband
21 here the priest is to put the woman under this cursemay the Lord cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell.
22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.
Then the woman is to say, Amen. So be it.
23 The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water.
24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her.
25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar.
26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial[c] offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water.
27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse.
28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
29 This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and makes herself impure while married to her husband, 30 or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the Lord and is to apply this entire law to her. 31 The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.
MAY I SAY THIS: I personally believe that man is responsible for his stupid shit and God gets the rap. This is an abortion trial that obviously has been a part of Jewish life since forever. They even have a potion formula to create it. I would also say that if it was an abomination then Jesus would have said so too. But he didn't. We have had religious people who hate women lie to us all these decades. If you had an abortion and worry about this, God won't care. He has bigger problems to take care of than meddling in your private affairs.
In fact, they say here they do it in his name and command. Of course they do it for themselves to ascertain property rights but hey?! What the hell anyway. Pass this scripture onward. Let all the fuckers out there know that God has not opinion on abortion and according to the SCRIPTURES THAT APPARENTLY ARE INERRANT, he allows and commands it.
You're welcome

(15,888 posts)If I recall, he was jealous that she got pregnant without his help.
Seriously, this reminds me of witch-dunking for some reason: If she drinks the water with all the crap we put in it and lives, all-be-it bloated and not able to have babies, she's guilty! But if she dies, then she's innocent. - - - - - whoops. Sorry about that guy. I guess you can go home to your other wives.

Hippocrates was a Greek who lived about 400BC, and is refered to as "The Father of Modern Medicine"
He is given credit for the Hippocratic Oath taken by all new physicians, though he probably did not write it.

(15,682 posts)Its time for women to become active and vocal again. I mean really get out there. I've lived the horror of losing my mom to abortion before Roe.
I want to put myself out there to help if I can find a way. For my mom, my daughters, my new grand daughter. Now is the time for all women, of all ages to come together and make ourselves heard..
I'm not afraid of the monsters.

(35,077 posts)Now, I know why they hate Planned Parenthood, you know why they hate Planned Parenthood, the squirrel outside the window knows why they hate Planned Parenthood... here's the thing, abortion is legal, the services Planned Parenthood provides are all legal, so why do they hate just them? If prosecutors and police refuse to go after Planned Parenthood, if state governors refuse to go after Planned Parenthood, if they are cleared of wrongdoing (As right wing hero Sam Brownback has done), if Congress has cleared them, then doesn't that mean THEY are their enemies as well? Why aren't they accessories to murder in the eyes of the right?
It's things like this that just confirm that they are more about making sure women don't have any ability to control their reproductive functions than they are pro-life.

(4,221 posts)with truckloads full of money and layettes for these women and fetuses?
If these judgmental fools would EVER, EVER put their money where their mouth is, then perhaps I would believe that they want to change the outcome. I don't think they believe their own message, no matter how loud they spew it. If they would ever shout "I can help you" instead of vile things, maybe I would give them the tiniest benefit of the doubt.
But since all they want to do is scream and froth at the mouth (or shoot down human beings in a monstrous way) -
then no, I don't think they really believe in changing the outcomes.
They just want to sit in judgment and talk about God's wrath, and mainly, just want to feel self-righteous!

(20,998 posts)Planned Parenthood from the top to the bottom is a corrupt organization corrupt in its view of the sanctity of life and corrupt in its view of human sexuality. I say even if Planned Parenthood didnt perform one single abortion, just the mere fact that its sexual ethic is corrupted means right there, should be the reason right there, that they should not receive any federal money. The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sex for mere pleasure.

Trust women.
it's all about controlling women - in their eyes, women should not be sexual creatures and should only seek sex for procreation and not for pleasure. Handing out birth control means a woman could actually stray from that line of thinking (gasp!)

(16,864 posts)I vividly remember in Med school during my second year in 2000, a horrific lecture from the chair of the OBGYN dept showing these old slides of pictures from botched abortions and complications from those botched abortions. It was one of the most gut wrenching lectures I sat through and yet there are those in my class and the medical community at large who vociferously oppose the right to a safe abortion. It is legal, and should remain legal. Yet, the "right to lifers" continue to find ways to limit and control the access to that right. They have controlled the talking points for far too long.

(6,261 posts)Abortion is not tragic. Unwanted and uncared for children are tragic. Children born with severe birth defects that will guarantee they will live short, pointless, but painful lives are tragic. Not abortion.
Abortion is sometimes the morally superior alternative and that's nothing to be either ashamed of or apologise for.

(469 posts)... with ONE statement above, that abortion is not painful. I'm a guy, but I know many women who have had abortions (I've been married to one for 40 years!), and I can tell you from my conversations with these fine people that the decision to have an abortion is never easy, never made lightly, and NEVER, EVER without repercussions, whose effects never completely dissipate. The pain involved may not be physical, but mental anguish is still painful.

I've never been pregnant, but I've had plenty of pregnancy scares and every single time I've had ZERO misgivings about scheduling the procedure. Easy choice for me, zero qualms.

(12,392 posts)Do you not believe in birth control? I used it all of my child bearing years and never once had a pregnancy scare, as you put it. I would think it would be preferable to a procedure.
I am certainly pro choice because there are many reasons why a pregnancy should be terminated, and it is not the business of government to make those decisions. But on the other hand, there's no such thing as "a little bit pregnant". The end result will be a baby. And the most flawless abortion can still have its risks. Call me old fashioned, but isn't birth control preferable?
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)Surely my statement that that I've never been pregnant points to that. Birth control fails - it is not perfect. If you're just having sex once in a blue moon, it's certainly less of a worry. If you're having sex frequently, as I do, that's a lot of chance for failure. I had a couple of major scares when I was forced to start antibiotics during a highly sexually active period, which renders the pill ineffective (meaning sperm still present up in the plumbing from previous days is suddenly a threat). And there were times I had to go off the pill due to problems and relied on barrier methods, which are even less reliable. Not that this is anyone's business.

The audience for the post is really those on the left.
The audience for the "it's not just abortions" apologies are probably those in the middle or anyone who would condemn mass murder of healthcare providers regardless of political views.

(4,113 posts)Rather, the abortion issue gives them an excuse to rally around their Republican/uber conservative politics openly. If these hypocrites were really "pro life" they would also be opposed to capital punishment, they wouldn't knee-jerk oppose any attempts at health care reform by a Democrat or a Black man in the White House. They would be concerned about a lot of other issues that play into the "sanctity of life." But they don't. These people rally around the abortion issue, put up yard signs, paint images on their barns, write LTTEs endorsing the Republican candidate and a bunch of other things to give them an excuse to vote a straight Republican ticket every election.
Around where I live, they hate Obama and the Clintons because of their pro choice position. They loved Dubya. Funny thing - I have never heard or read where the Clintons or Obamas terminated any pregnancies in their lives. Dubya did.
Hypocrites!

(23,553 posts)That is the one argument I really have trouble with. If we are talking ethics we should discuss the ethics of choice. Many of us don't agree with the drug laws and people protest that. Many of us don't agree with the tax laws or the banking regulations. But, they are legal and we often call congress or use our votes to change the laws.
For the people who believe abortions are murder, saying they are legal doesn't open any minds in my opinion. But, focusing on choice and the health and well being of the mother does.

(6,594 posts)All those black spots around the letters are what we call "mosquito noise," because they look like mosquitoes flying around the darker portions of the image.
They look like crap on a still JPG (see Exhibit A above) but even worse on an "HD" MPEG video stream (2k or 4k) where they flutter around as the video plays. And don't get me started on macro-blocking & color-banding. I was part of the engineering team that developed the US HDTV (ATSC) standard, & it can be a LOT better ... but of course receiver/display manufacturers wanted to save costs, & broadcasters wanted to save bandwidth. So, we're stuck with "HD" crap, which, as a professional video producer, drives me crazy. 90% of the "HD" programs I watch are riddled with MPEG coding artifacts (obvious defects), not to mention things like incorrect black level (no, video black is NOT 0,0,0! & don't even think of transferring video black directly to film black. Try that & anyone at Sony/Paramount/Disney/Pixar/Universal/etc or anyone else who knows what they're doing (including me) will slap you silly. Even if you're doing a digital intermediate.)
OK. Fine. Sorry if I'm wearing my video producer hat, but after years of being responsible for everything that went out the door, I can't turn it off. Stuff like that just makes me cringe. Image how I watch TV at home? It's hard to stop doing QC on the content.
So, does anyone have a better quality version of that graphic?
Thanks, ... Best!

BTW, I got to see Sarah Weddington debate Phyllis Schlafly about Roe v. Wade (I was in graduate school at NCSU--and, yes, Dr. Schwalbe, it was well worth missing your "lecture" to see that debate!). Ms. Weddington was professional, articulate, and diplomatic. Schlafly was shrill, argumentative, and condescending.
I cannot believe we are still debating women's rights to our reproductive freedoms, and to safe, affordable abortions.
