Jury chosen in first Freddie Gray trial

By Ann O'Neill, CNN

Baltimore (CNN)A racially diverse jury has been chosen to decide the criminal case of William G. Porter Jr., the first of six police officers charged in the death of a 25-year old black man while in police custody.

The panel seated Wednesday includes four men and eight women. Eight of the jurors are black; four are white.

Protests followed Freddie Gray's death and erupted on April 27 -- the afternoon of his funeral -- in the worst rioting Baltimore had seen in nearly a half-century.

All 12 jurors and two of the four alternates were chosen from Monday's pool of 75 potential panelists when chants of protesters on the streets below could be heard in the courtroom.
