UK Muslim students claims speech by ex-Muslim activist violates their "safe space"

Radical Muslim students made death threats while interrupting a lecture on blasphemy by a prominent human rights activist, it was claimed today.

Maryam Namazie, who fled Iran's repressive regime and now campaigns against Islamic extremism, was speaking at the Atheist, Secularist and Humanist Society of Goldsmiths in London.

However, the event on Monday night was disrupted by students from the university's Islamic Society - which claimed that it would 'violate their safe space' because of Ms Namazie's outspoken views.

In October, she was banned from speaking at Warwick University because students union officials feared that Muslims might 'feel intimidated or discriminated against', although the ban was lifted after a public outcry.

8. I have this problem with Western postmodern response to Islam

Women who speak out against conservative Islamic cultures are often denigrated on the Left in leftist terms, because our noggin wires start fraying and sparking when treatment of women encounters multiculturalism. We can't walk and chew gum.

There have been a lot of women who have spoken out about their treatment, both in the West and worldwide Islamic culture, who have been branded as right-wingers. And what totally sucks is, these speakers often become right-wing celebrities.

Why? They should be ours. We should have them under our tent because we don't take that shit towards women from anyone.

Republicans don't like Muslims so much. For racial and religious reasons. So, by the prevailing logic, we must protect them.

Which I'm all for. I don't want anyone discriminated against, either legally or personally.

But I retain the damn ability to note a culture is backwards. I have Muslim neighbors upstairs. Very nice people. I get along with them just fine - I just fixed their furnace last night after they alerted me that they hadn't had heat for a year. They also like to get drunk in their garage, debate the Quran, and make their opinions about everything known through the very thin door between their garage and my apartment. They're not exactly respecters of women. In any conceivable way. Sometimes, I'm brushing my teeth and just cringing, because they're on about whores, and who follows the Quran best, and ways women dishonor their families (I've noted, dishonor has a direct correlation to whether or not said woman is into my neighbors).

Why I am not allowed to go, "Uhm, no guys. Not ok!" (I don't. They're neighbors. I don't get into religion with neighbors).

If I were to register disagreement, well, that's racism and Islamophobia, and how dare you?!

Just fucking spare me. Women shouldn't be treated as friggin sex cattle.
