Zombie Attack: Officials misleading the public, saying it's LSD related when it's not

I'm sure you've seen the stories about the Zombie attack, where a crazy guy bit the face off another guy.

Today the reports took a twist where they keep trying to say he was on a drug that is "the new LSD."

just one example from CNN

A naked man who chewed off the face of another man in what is being called a zombie-like attack may have been under the influence of "bath salts," a drug referred to as the new LSD, according to reports from CNN affiliates in Miami.
http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/29/reports-miami-zombie-attacker-may-have-been-using-bath-salts/?hpt=hp_t2

Just google "zombie attack LSD" and you'll get tons of articles inferring the guy was on a new form of LSD.

These reports are nothing but an effort to make people think LSD makes you want to kill people or jump out windows.

Yesterday the reports never even mentioned what the drug was, it just said it's a new form of LSD.

Today they say the person was on "bath salts" and they list the components as being amphetimines.

"Doctors and clinicians at U.S. poison centers have indicated that ingesting or snorting 'bath salts' containing synthetic stimulants can cause chest pains, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, agitation, hallucinations, extreme paranoia, and delusions," according to the NIDA report.

In October, the Drug Enforcement Administration made possession of the stimulants in bath salts, Mephedrone, 3,4 methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) and Methylone, illegal under an emergency order. The order lasts for a year with a possible six-month extension.

But they still refer to it as "the new LSD."

Let's be clear. LSD is not an amphetimine. LSD does not produce any of those effects. LSD does not make you want to bite someone's face off. In fact, in the vast majority of cases, it makes you more peaceful, happy, and insightful.

LSD and bath salts are not related in any way.

This is either an honest / stupid mistake, or an intentional effort to mischaracterize LSD and make people think it induces violence when it does not.

sometimes I think they do this stuff on purpose because LSD actually opens people's minds and it shows them how messed up the world is and it makes you want to do something about it, in a positive way. the powers to be just want to keep everyone in line, keep things the way they are, and close people's minds, status quo.

Thanks--this seems to be one giant purpose of the drug war IMHO, besides profits. To link all substances together, meth (or PCP) and LSD, cocaine with pot--they create associations where there are none. Authoritative types follow suit and the sheeple mentality is maintained....Ba-aa-aa-aa-aah!

First, the hippies smoke marijuana, then they do heroin, PCP, and LSD. Then they go crazy and jump off buildings trying to fly, or they eat each others' faces off.

It's scientifically proven. I saw it in a filmstrip in school. (Oh, no, did I say "filmstrip?" I meant video. Damn, I'm old.)

Pure mescaline is active at ~250mgs (and a low dose like that can be an incredibly nice way to spend 8 hours or so). 250mgs would be almost an entire large 0 size pill. A large dose of PCP is ~10mgs which would only fill around 5% of larger pills like that. Being familiar with dose ranges and having a mg scale are really handy if you're gonna take pills of somewhat unknown origin. This from someone who has had a fair share of somewhat shaky trips . Glad you made it through OK.

BS, as well as even sloppier than usual science reporting. LSD is LSD. If there were a way to make it "extra-powerful", you can bet that Owsley or Tim Leary or someone would have figured it out back in the day.

26. LSD is already extra-powerful :)
Wed May 30, 2012, 02:12 PM
May 2012

It's active at a few micrograms. 100 micrograms is a fairly strong dose for most peopple. I believe that MDPV is active at around 10mgs or so, so LSD is about 100x more potent by weight. Only, I've seen people take massive doses of LSD (at around the 1mg range) and they've never considered munching someone's face off, usually they're more preoccupied listening to their hands.

This horrific event has given way to some insanely sloppy reporting. Because the difference between LSD-25 and MDPV isn't how strong they are, but they have completely different effects. But they need to scare people and what better way to do that than by comparing it to a drug that's already been demonized (but still could stand to be demonized further).

A chunk of this country will be like WTF if you say "bath salts" unless an incident has been in their local news.

They are calling it the "new LSD" for the % of the population who aren't paying attention and get their news from bumper stickers.
