The White House says it remains opposed to military action in Syria, reasoning that would only lead to more carnage.
Spokesman Jay Carney says the Obama administration will continue offering non-lethal assistance to the Syrian people.
Following a gruesome weekend massacre in Syria, Carney says the U.S. is working with its allies to assess further action, but he is giving no specific detail about what those next steps might include.
A United Nations report says more than half of the 108 people killed over the weekend were women and children.
Carney reaffirmed U.S. calls for Syrian President Bashar Assad to leave power. Carney also said Tuesdays co-ordinated move by the U.S. and other nations to expel Syrian diplomats was a signal of the international communitys absolute disgust with Assads rule.

(23,418 posts)The people of the US are certainly not interested in another expensive military adventure. There are think tanks that want "regime change" to further this or that strategic interest.
