I was out with the puppies and turned wrong and fell over the hot tub stairs and somehow in the process, messed up my right hip. Today I can hardly walk and had to lift my leg from the gas to the brake when driving.
I don't think it is swollen and nothing seems to be broken, Just very sore. I couldn't get in to my doctor since he is slammed due to being off yesterday for the holiday. I do have the option of going to the ER if I think I need it, but this afternoon is better than this morning.

(3,747 posts)Arnica has incredible healing powers. I broke my kneecap a few weeks ago and healed in record time with arnica gel (my favorite brand - http://www.amazon.com/Boericke-Tafel-Arniflora-Arnica-Gel/dp/B005P0L2XE DO NOT USE ON OPEN WOUNDS OR SCRAPES!
Also, comfrey compresses are incredible. If you have fresh, that's best, but you can find powdered at a health food store, mix some with water and get it all gelatinous and then add white flour until it stiffens. Press to about 1/4" thickness and apply to the affected area. Leave it on for about 1/2 hour or so.
Good luck healing.

(22,845 posts)I agree with everything you wrote about arnica.
Haven't tried comfrey but I might.
Any idea what to do for a hamstring injury? Back of the leg above the knee.

Again, I would use comfrey. I got to actually test the efficacy when I broke my kneecap. Comfrey has names such as Heal All, Bone knit and other auspicious titles. Fresh is best (great for the garden for many reasons) but dried will work just fine.

(16,375 posts)I had a fall with very similar symptoms few years ago and it turned out I had fractured my pelvis. It's not as catastrophic as it sounds, but it's important to have get it x-rayed. If that's what it turns out to be (which I hope it's not), you'll at least need crutches or a walker to keep from bearing much weight on that side few weeks.
Take care of yourself, demtenjeep.

(37,648 posts)It is important that it be treated and stabilized so it will heal properly, if you do have a fracture. It could cause you problems the rest of your life.
It's probably okay, but better safe than sorry when dealing with a hip.

(2,682 posts)Mobility is such an important thing. IF you have a hairline fracture or if something has been chipped, it would only take another spill to put you out of commission for quite a while. You know the old adage: better to be safe than sorry. Hope everything turns out ok.

(41,694 posts)Did the same thing 3 weeks ago. Thunderstorm woke me up in the middle of the night and I ran outside to roll up the windows in my truck.
When I came back in the door I went down like a sack of potatoes, landed on my hip with my leg folded underneath me.
I was able to get up and hobble into the house, took some ibuprofens and went to bed.
When I got up and tried to stand up, the pain level was about 10+. Took 45 minutes, using a board as a crutch, to get to the front room.
Called my brother and he came and helped me get into his truck and we went to the ER.
The good news-I didn't break anything. But I had some severe bruised muscles and strained ligaments.
I'm just now able to get around without a walker and it's still a little sore if I'm on my feet too much.

Make sure you eat right, take it easy, but stay active.

(30,404 posts)Regarding the ER ~ my father was a physician,
He would always ask us " Are you feeling better or worse....? " when something happened.
Glad to see that you are feeling BETTER.
I just had a bad fall 3 weeks ago.
I was walking with a friend on a path we use many times.
Watch out everyone for the "wheelchair accessable areas" on street corners.
It fans out and I missed the designated fan out area and fell flat on my face/knee.
My leg/face are just about healed.
Take Care and We'll keep praying

(1,076 posts)You are lucky not to have a serious injury. I read your post last night and I found myself looking for a follow up today. I am glad you are OK. It can really hurt like heck when you take a bad spill. I fell two years ago and wound up with a fractured vertabra...glad you are OK.
