Mary Buren to name library after Ellen Degeneres; comedian will unveil renovations on show today
Guadalupe is a little town on the Pacific ocean west of Santa Maria where I live. It looks just like a piece of Mexico. The movie "The Ten Commandments" was filmed on the dunes there and the set is buried under the sand. Once in a while the sand shifts and you can see part of the set which is the walls of Jerusalem.

After major renovations to the Mary Buren Elementary School Library in Guadalupe earlier this year, the library will soon be named after its biggest donor Ellen DeGeneres.
The Guadalupe Union School District's Board of Education plans to officially name the renovated building The Ellen DeGeneres Learning Center at their board meeting Wednesday following the comedian and Target's "Thanks A Billion" campaign's $100,000 donation earlier this year.
Using the funds, the district was able to renovate the library, which was flooded last December and many of the 11,000 books, furniture and other learning tools were lost.
"This project is an unbelievable gift to the students, staff and parents of the Guadalupe community," said GUSD Superintendent Ed Cora. "The school district board of trustees expresses their sincere gratitude to Ellen, the Cousins, construction crew, and everyone else who had a part in this wonderful gift.''
