Hundreds rally in Portland (the original one in Maine) to support refugees

http://www.wmtw.com/news/hundreds-rally-in-portland-to-support-refugees/36831902

Hundreds of people turned out in Monument Square Sunday night to show solidarity with families fleeing danger overseas.

A rally put on by the Portland Racial Justice Congress focused on speaking out against hateful rhetoric against refugees coming to the United States, especially Muslims.

Leaders at the event hoped the demonstration showed other parts of the state that people seeking refuge have allies and friends awaiting them in Portland.

Terry Burrage, with the Portland Racial Justice Congress, said "not only is this a problem as far as a need to continue the American legacy of accepting immigrants, it's also a problem of stigmatizing people who are already here, who are Americans, and who are Muslim."
