Will the US have another black president?

I'm hearing some of my co workers saying that GWB was the last white president that the country will ever see again. They believe that Clinton, O Malley, and Sanders are wasting time running for president and that Deval Patrick, Cory Booker, and Kasim Reed will be the Democratic nominee in July, and likely win the presidency. Do you think so, or are they delusional? Regardless of what they say, will we have another African American president?

Plenty of people are capable of thinking "this one is okay, it is all the others who are not". Then, of course, there is the long history of white men treating black woman as property for their pleasure.

None of those mentioned are even running so it is delusional for 2016.

Booker is very ambitious and probably has his eye on the VP slot at the 2016 convention, and the top slot in 2020.

Patrick, inexplicably signed on with Bain Capital of all places after he left office so that kind of eliminated his presidential ambitions on the dem side. He may switch to repug though (ugh) and run with Mitt, his new employer, in 2020.

Reed may be worth keeping an eye on in 2020.

Whites alone will eventually drop below 50%, but they will still make up far more people in this country than any other group, and will for well over a century. Also, it gets more complicated in the future. As Latinos grow, they and whites will begin to have more interracial children. Moreso than whites and blacks.

My girlfriend is 1/2 hispanic. Her father is German and mother is Venezuelan. But she looks white. Is she counted as white or hispanic in the Census? And if we have kids, how are they counted? It's going to get confusing and irrelevant eventually.

It also doesn't necessarily change the social dynamics. Whites were a minority in South Africa that oppressed a black majority for many years. It all depends on who holds the wealth. Whites still have massive control of wealth and land in the western hemisphere. And that won't change for a long time since much of wealth and property is passed down and inherited.

And remember, he also criticized the Obama campaign in 2012 for it's attacks on Romney and Bain Capital when he was a surrogate for the Obama camp.

I do not want to rule out any of the younger more fiery advocates of BLM, I see strength, intelligence and leadership in some of them. That's coming from an European American layperson.

Unless of course they are not just saying that Patrick et al will be nominees (that's the delusional part) but also that if they were it would be terrible because they are black (that would be the racist part). I'd be fine with a Patrick nomination personally, but 7 weeks before IA is a bit beyond cutting it fine. Do your friends understand the nomination process and that most delegates are pledged?

As to the headline question the answer is of course, and maybe even one of the names listed. Just not in 2017. FWIW here's my guess on "minority POTUS super accumulator" sequencing.

Female
Black (yes we've had Obama, I mean the next one)
Hispanic/Latino/a
Jewish
GLBT
Significant NA %

Probably all in the next 100 years

Muslim? Beyond fortseeable horizon most likely. Certainly generations.

The one we'll really have to wait for is atheist, or rather open atheist. We've probably already had more than one private nonbeliever. I truly cannot see the US electing a known unbeliever any earlier than Iran or Iraq doing the same.

Clearly your coworkers are disturbed about the decline of the white male's exclusive grip on power and are concocting conspiracy theories. The only AA who is running is on the GOP side. There is no indicated any of the candidates listen have any intention of entering the Democratic primaries.

As for the folks who can't see how those comments are racist, that is a problem in and of itself.

What that we have been told indicates anyone's opinion on the desirability of black Presidents? I can pretty much guarantee for example that all the remaining Presidents in my lifetime will be nominal Christians. I don't think that makes them undesirable as Presidents, unless of course they pursue theocracy (I would find a black President who espoused black supremacy undesirable too, just like a white one espousing white supremacy). I'm not against Christian Presidents. Heck every single President I revere in any way has been ostensibly at any rate a committed believer. I'm predicting more of the same, not expressing bigotry against or loathing of more of the same. I'm also predicting that Obama wants other Christians to follow him in office

What are the third party folks described doing differently? With the evidence presented that is not kneejerk guesses about their unstated opinions?
